I get the same type of reaction from people when I mention we are doing it. This will be our first time in the LMSC, We do other pageants from natural all the way up to high glitz and at every pageant someone has something bad to say about the LMSC system. I guess we will have to learn the hard way! Good Luck, maybe we will have a good experience!

This will be our first LMSC also. My daughter will be in the Tiny Tot group. Hopefully it will be a great experience.I have heard mixed reactions also but I am looking forward to it!!

OK.. this is the truth as I see it!

Your complaints seem to be more of a personal problem with one of the directors rather than with the pageant!

They have 169 contestants this year .. 65 on the first Saturday and 104 in the older groups .. the poster above obviously only had the numbers for the older groups .. they must be doing something right .. I don't know of any other state pageant with that many contestants.

They seem to have a lot of repeaters every year so obviously not everyone shares your opinion.

They are different from other pageant systems in some ways (clothes don't count, they want the contestants to look their age, etc.) but they tell you that in their paperwork.

A lot of the negative comments are jealousy and sour grapes .. they offer scholarships, prestigious titles and appearances and a chance to be on state wide TV .. true it's the South Carolina Channel, not a major network, but it is TV!

The entire staff could not have been nicer to us .. could it be that you are the rude one?

Finally, I think that the people who are going need to go with a positive attitude expecting to have a good experience.

for either Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen MAO (Miss America Org)or Miss Kershaw/Miss Kershaw Teen MAO, which is part of the Miss SC MAO Scholarship Program. Her last year was either 2001 or 02. Diane purchased the LMSC pageant from the founder's daughter, after the founder of this then, 30+ year old pageant system, died. Her name was Linda Floyd and was from my hometown of Sumter. Ms. Floyd was good as gold and put on pageants worthy of a Miss Universe (maybe I am stretching it a bit).

For God knows what reason, Diane Galloway went after her former Excutive State Directors' teen system. Meaning she took the mighty Sanders family, who have runned Miss SC MAO since 1964, to court. The reason she sued was that in 2001, Miss SC MAO held their first state Miss Teen SC MAO pageant. My child competed in the Miss Teen SC MAO 2002 pageant and was called Miss Teen (city/town) MAO 2002. My child also competed in the 2003 Miss Teen SC MAO pageant. For six months, my daughter was again called Miss Teen (city/town) 2003 MAO.

About one week before my daughter went to the 2003 Miss Teen SC MAO 2003 pageant, she received a carefully written letter from Miss SC MAO and the Sanders family, as did all teen contestants, telling her that she should begin referring to herself as Miss (city/town)Teen MAO 2003. Notice, if she lived in Boiling Springs she would have been called Miss Boiling Springs Teen MAO instead of Miss Teen Boiling Springs MAO.

Diane sued for trademark violation or something like that. Her and the Miss SC MAO executive directors settled out of court. Miss SC MAO changed the name of the state teen pageant from Miss Teen SC to Miss SC Teen, thereby making all prelim winners change their local titles right before the state pageant in the summer of 2003. This must have felt like a major win for Ms. Galloway to have sued her former bosses', stripped them of their teen title, and walked away with all the knowledge imparted to her by the Miss SC and Miss America organization. She now runs her LMSC pageant like a Miss SC prelim even copying the infamous Miss SC/Miss America crowns and altering them slightly.

After that arrogant win, Diane began searching the state voy system pageant message boards. Any director who was crowing a teen group, and calling their teen Miss Teen xyz, had to rename their teen division or risk being sued like the Sanders and SC MAO. She posted messages to this effect on various pageant boards and sent letters to many directors. I know, because I have judged for many of these directors..

I think Diane tries hard and I have no reason to bash her. My opinion of what she did to Miss SC MAO is personal since my involvement with that system dates back to the 50's. I have even judged LMSC prelims and love the fact that Diane sequesters the judges before and after the pageant and does not let them speak to the parents, which I applaude. Miss America, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss Universe and the likes of the great and big pageants do not let parents talk to judges either. The judge's decision is final and that is the way it should be, but in many a glitz pageant it is not.

So that is probably what you people here on this board are searching for. The truth. Well that is the truth. I do not favor what Diane did in the least, especially because of my sentimental attachment to Miss SC MAO system and the teen program, but I applaud her for standing up to the Sanders, who make Ms. Galloway's problems pale in comparison. She must be one hell of a good and shrewed (spelling?) business women. Glad I never ran into her in the business world.

My only comment is that I know for a fact that Ms. Galloway destroyed many potential relationships with other state pageant directors, when she began her personal fight with them. It has really given her a bad name out there on the glitz pageant circuit and many directors just laugh when Diane or LMSC is mentioned. I suppose this is what some of you on this message board have experienced or heard.

Hope this helps you make decisions about LMSC for the new pageant year. My recommendation: don't avoid her or LMSC for any other gossip, unless it is for the above. If you want verification, call the Miss SC state office in Liberty, SC, and ask them about Diane. You don't even mention her name in their hallowed halls anymore. I was a fan of the founder of LMSC and my mother used to work for her. She would roll in her grave now if she knew that people were avoiding her former system because of a beauty queen pageant title dispute. With all the problems in this world, I still find it hard that pettiness like this even exist on this grand scale.

My daughter competed in the Wee Miss Little Miss South CArolina in June. She did make the top 12 and did not make the top five. But we found the pageant to be organized well and fun. Diane was nothing but GREAT and NICE to us! She helped us before the pageant by answering questions and was very nice. I was disappointed in the winners, considering three of the top five were the winners in talent. It was almost as though the judges had their minds made up before the pageant began on Saturday. They must not have even looked at modeling! I think their were a lot of surprised people with the Wee Miss Group! But it is the judges decisions and there is nothing you can do about it! I would love to have some feedback! However, my daughter wants to do the pageant again; she enjoyed it! Diane, Linda and all the staff were great to us! The organization was good too! We do many pageants and they are not organized this well! I would encourage anyone who is looking for a friendly and fun pageant to try it! We hope to be back next year!!!

maybe the above poster was thinking of another pageant. I have found that it is different in that clothes count very little (if at all) but that is not a bad thing .. and they don't like false hair, eyelashes etc. on the little ones.
We plan to keep trying!

I was able to see this division compete at state this year. I was disappointed that most of the girls who made the finals did not know how to do the turns appropriately. Did anyone else notice this? I assume they had a great interview and that is what enabled them to make the finals but there were lots of girls who did not make it to the finals that were beautiful on stage, had a fabulous stage presence, knew what to do and was just overall beautiful.

IT WAS A NICE PAGEANT BUT I HATED THE WAY THAT THEY DID COLLECTIVE JUDGING.THEY SHOULD NOT SPLIT IT UP IT WAS NOT FAIR AND THEY TOOK THEIR SWEET TIME JUDGING THE SECOND HALF OF THE GIRLS AND IF YOU NOTICE ALMOST ALL THE WINNERS THE RUNNERUPS AND QUEEN CAME FROM THE SECOND HALF.IF THEY CAN BRING ALL OF THE GIRLS OUT TO CROWN THEM ON ONE STAGE THEN THEY CAN BRING THEM ALL OUT FOR COLLECTIVE JUDGING ON THE SAME STAGE.IF THERE ARE TOO MANY THEN THEY NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER AGE GROUP SOME HOW. ALL THE GIRLS LOOKED GREAT AND ALL THE MOMS WERE NICE HOWEVER I THOUGHT THAT A FEW THAT PLACED SHOULD NOT HAVE BECAUSE THE PARENTS HAD TO TRY TO KEEP THEM HAPPY AND YOU COULD TELL AND OTHER KIDS LIKE MINE GOT UP THERE AND SMILED AND WAVED AND WERE SAYING HELLO AND THEY DID NOT EVEN PLACE.BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY CONGRATUALTIONS TO ALL OF THE GIRLS WINNER OR NOT YOU ARE ALL WINNERS AND DID GREAT WE HAD FUN AND HOPE TO GO BACK NEXT YEAR.

My daughter was in the group also and didn't place but I had the winner picked and a couple of the runners up before it started! The little girl who won was adorable! I don't know how she did on stage but she was a pretty little girl! My daughter was in the first group as well for collective and I do wish they had let them all come on stage at the same time also or at least in two rows and then switched them! But at crowning that stage was PACKED and who knows if it would have changed the outcome! They were ALL cute little girls and all did so well!! Like your child, I thought mine showed lots of personality too and I'm sure it was a tough decision! We had so much fun and met so many nice people!! All in all we had a good experience! It was a very well put together pageant and we hope to be back next year too!!!

Hi moms my daughters has been in pageants since she was 10 months she is now 6,she has never competed at this state pageant(she has done a preliem)but,all directors will tell you with little ones to do what ever it takes to make them happy.Talk to them bounce they and family wave or make noise while they are on stage. My daughter has also been in pageants where they break the group up for collective,the judges need to see the girls if they are all cramed on the stage they can not see them.
I know it is very hard when our little ones do not place ever we feel they should I know I have been there with my daughter too. The best thing you can do for your daughters is to let them know how well they did and how PROUD you are of them,and to encourge them to do their best.

I am VERY proud of my daughter! And I told her! She did everything she was suppose to do..and had fun doing it! I thought she did a great job on stage...and that's all I asked of her! Of course every parent wants their child to win! But with 18 girls in a group only one leaves with the crown and the child that won was deserving of it! I can truly say all the moms/dads were SO nice and I think we all had fun! All of our kids were winners in each of our eyes and that's what really matters!! We'll just go back and try again next year!!

CALLING ALL TITLEHOLDERS

Hello, my name is Mrs. Renee� and I am the mother of Grace Edwards Spears, the new Miss Charleston Teen USA 2006 and 3rd runner-up to Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2005. I am also a pageant judge. Grace competed on the glitz pageant circuit from 2001 � 2003, winning many titles and establishing many pageant friends and sisters. Since the 2002- 2003 pageant season, Grace has won the titles of Miss Walterboro Teen MAO (SC Miss America Organization) 2002, Miss Anderson Teen MAO 2003, Miss Aiken Teen USA 2004-05, and Miss Charleston Teen USA 2005-06.

I am asking for your support in a Memorial Day weekend fundraiser in memory of a dear friend, who became a 2nd daughter to our family. Please take the time to read the information below the line after my message, from Ms. Renee Tollison, the former Miss Anderson and Miss Williamston MAO (SC Miss America Organization) Local Executive Director and Miss Anderson and Miss Blue Ridge SC USA Director.

In February 2003, my daughter had the fortune to win the first Miss Anderson Teen MAO title and was crowned by the new Local Executive Director, Miss Leslie A. Mazzara. Leslie, like Grace, was a dancer, and was thrilled to have a teen with ballet as her talent. This was the beginning of a wonderful bond that began between Leslie and Grace. Leslie moved to Columbia, SC after she graduated from the University of Georgia, to be nearer to Grace and the Columbia Conservatory of Dance and Gowns and Crowns (www.gownsandcrown.com), so she could assist with Grace�s preparation for the Miss South Carolina Teen MAO 2003 pageant. She was also dating a nice young man, from Columbia at that time.

In March 2004, Leslie was presented with an opportunity to move to Napa, CA, to live with her mother. Later she met some neighbors who lived near her mother, and she moved in with them. She became employed at a winery, owned by Hollywood director, Francis Ford Coppola, and was rapidly promoted. Leslie had dreams of being an entertainment lawyer or doing something involving the world of movies, and what better person to work for!

On November 1, 2004, after having a nice Halloween evening, Leslie and one of her roommates were murdered. The killer has not been found and her investigation is ongoing. This tragedy struck too close to home. We were all completely devastated and felt profound loss, especially Grace. We especially became more upset when we saw how the local, state, and national news jumped all over this story, exploiting the �Beauty Queen and her Rommate�s� murder. I am sure many of you who read this, may recall the media fiasco. This really upset Grace, because Leslie was more than just a beauty queen. In fact she competed in only 2 or 3 pageants.

For this reason, and because we have so many friends out there in the pageant community, I am seeking your help to promote and participate with an event to raise funds for abused children in Leslie�s memory. Leslie was a child abuse advocate and loved children. Many of you titleholders have community service requirements to maintain your title. This is an excellent opportunity and great photo-op. Plus you will get to meet many infamous titleholders from around the state

Directors, please follow the instructions on the website www.lesliemazzarafund.com, to create a label for a donation jar and flyer(s) to place on your registration tables at your upcoming pageants and pageants to be held after Memorial Day weekend. I challenge you all to print out a pledge form and go out there and seek donations in your cities, towns, and communities.

Your assistance means more to me, my husband, and to Grace than you will ever know. CALLING ALL TITLEHOLDERS

We�re so excited to share with you the opportunity to participate in a major fund-raising event to be held as a part of this year�s Freedom Weekend Aloft in Anderson May 27 - 30 from 12 to 11 p.m. daily. Specifically, the fund-raiser is called �Sit for Stephanie� with proceeds from the annual event going to benefit Stephanie�s Cottages at the Calvary Home for Children. Calvary Home for Children is a long-term residential care facility that will provide a home for abused, neglected and orphaned children from all over the Southeastern United States with special consideration given to children from the upstate of South Carolina and surrounding areas.

This year�s event is being held in memory of Leslie Mazzara, Miss Williamston 2002. Leslie�s grace, charm and generosity touched everyone she met. She was an Anderson County resident and graduate of Belton-Honea Path High School, a member of the Greenville Ballet Company and attended the SC Governor�s School for the Arts. She graduated in 2003 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor�s degree in philosophy.

Leslie was crowned Miss Williamston 2002 and went on to compete in the 2002 Miss South Carolina Pageant. As Miss Williamston, Leslie chose child abuse awareness and prevention as her platform after hearing about the case of Stephanie Carter. Stephanie was the four-year-old Anderson girl who died on October 17, 2000, after a year of torture at the hands of her father and stepmother. Leslie became an advocate for abused and neglected children by speaking at church and school events to raise awareness, by promoting legislation for the cause and by conducting fund-raisers for Stephanie�s Cottage at Calvary Home for Children.

Leslie came up with the idea of a sit-a-thon whereby participants collect pledges/donations during the days/weeks leading up to the event. Then during the event, participants sit for one hour inside a taped-out box the size of the bathroom in which little Stephanie spent her last days on this earth locked away. This is a very powerful statement and creates a lasting impression upon those who witness the event.

Tragedy struck in the early morning hours of November 1, 2004. Leslie and a roommate, Adrianne Insogna, were fatally stabbed in their Napa, California home where they were living at the time. As of this date, the murders remain unsolved. It is a tragic irony that someone so passionate about an evil of society would herself become a victim at another�s hands.

The family and friends of Leslie Mazzara wish to create a lasting memorial in her honor. The goal of the Leslie Mazzara Memorial Fund is to raise money for a third cottage at Calvary Home for Children in Anderson, South Carolina. This home will serve as a tribute to Leslie and her mission of preventing the horrors of child abuse. Proceeds from the Sit for Stephanie 2005 will benefit both Stephanie�s Cottages as well as Leslie�s Cottage.

We have enlisted the assistance of Anna Hanks, Miss Greenville 2005, and Lauren Taylor, Miss South Carolina Teen USA 2005, in planning and organizing this event. Please contact one of us at the numbers listed below or by e-mail as soon as possible to schedule a one-hour time slot. Of course, you are encouraged to come as often and stay as long as you want. We�d like to have two or three girls �sitting� at all times (12 - 11 p.m.) with more during the heaviest attendance times from 4 - 8 p.m. Although we�re focusing on having titleholders sit, anyone who would like to may participate.

During the sit-a-thon at Freedom Weekend Aloft, participants will sign autographs and pose for pictures with FWA attendees that will be taken digitally, printed out and autographed onsite, all for a donation to Calvary Home. Other activities include Sonlight karaoke, beauty make-overs with photo shoots, face-painting and other fun activities for children. Singers, please bring your own background music and plan to help us entertain the crowds. We�re also seeking your help in acquiring multiple items to be raffled off during the four days. It doesn�t have to be anything big, although that would be wonderful; it can be almost anything of value. Just bring the items with you when you come for the sit, and they will go into the �pot� for that day. Depending on the donations, we may even have multiple drawings per day.

Everything you need can be found on the Leslie Mazzara Memorial Fund web site at www.lesliemazzarafund.com . The site is still under construction, so please check back often for updates. Please let us know if you have any problems with the site. Also, please visit the Calvary Home for Children web site at www.calvaryhome.org so that you will be armed with the knowledge you will need when asking for cash donations or items for the raffles. The most important thing you will need to know is that Calvary Home serves children from the �upstate and beyond,� not just from Anderson.

We appreciate the many responses we have already received in regard to the Leslie Mazzara Memorial Fund and are hopeful that the �Sit for Stephanie 2005" fund-raiser, along with others we have planned for later this year, will raise the $250,000 needed to build Leslie�s Cottage. I know we can count on Leslie�s �pageant family� to help us meet this challenge.

Hope someone can help me....my daughter will be doing the LMSC pageant for the 1st time and was wondering what type of dress she should wear? Have heard there will be glitz and off the rack...the one she already has is more on the glitzy side. I know there isn't a dress score and they are looking for age appropriate attire...but is a dress with stones going to be frowned upon? She is in the 0-4 division. Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice that has done this pageant before.Thanks!

Hi, this is "Dumb Like A Fox", remember me? I'm back! Did you all miss me? Are you all nervous about this years pageant? Looks like they are letting everyone in this year. It seems winning a preliminary doesn't mean much anymore. Their hand picked girls didn't win the preliminaries like they had planned so they are making spots for their chosen ones. It doesn't really matter though because 'ol "Foxy's" child has already won! They can bring in all the "ringers" they want, the victory is already ours. So the rest of you may as well stay home. Hey, that's the problem, they didn't have any girls this year because they were all afraid of loosing to us! That's why they all stayed away! See all you little wet hens in Hartsville.

Little Miss-Teen Miss state pageant
The state pageant is seeking representatives from all South Carolina counties that do not currently host a local preliminary. The goal is to see all 46 of South Carolina's counties represented at the state pageant in June. The pageant promotes academic excellence and community service as well as providing contestants a chance to display their beauty, poise and talent on stage. Contestants ages 5 and up meet with the judges for a personal interview. Over $30,000 in scholarships will be awarded at the state pageant in June 2005, and the pageant finals will be broadcast by ETV. The pageant is partnered with Palmetto Health Children's Hospital and contributed over $10,000 in 2004 to help with its work with South Carolina's sick and injured children. Competition groups are offered for girls ages 12 months through 19 years and boys ages 12 months through 8 years. Ashley was so pretty the night that she won young miss. That night my daughter and I sat and watched this beautiful cinderella walk out on stage in what I thought was the most stunning gown I had ever saw.The moment we saw her there was no doubt that she would not win. We are her fans. My daughter has since started entering pageants and we had to buy the exact dress except in pink and a smaller version.I hate that we will not see her a Little Miss this year. We hope to follow in her foot steps and become Young Miss South Carolina 2005. Good luck Ashley.

1. All Deposits for Mini Nationals and Nationals are required 10 days before pageant.The deposit is 50.00



2. You may send Money Orders or pay deposits/ fees by Paypal. All Paypal Payments require a 4% fee in addition to any monies sent. Paypal address is ratchfordmodelingandmore@hotmail.com



3. Cash only on the day of pageant before services rendered.



4. Please bring Falls, Cascades, Wiglets to me on the night before along with bag for rollers. All Hair should be rolled and sprayed lightly on ends with hotset. I will roll falls for 10.00 extra. Eyelashes are available for 5.00 extra if I provide them.



5. Come to h/m with a clean face and hair rolled and sprayed lightly on the ends with hotset. Hair should be rolled at least 2 hours prior to start. Also a loose shirt on that does not have to be removed over the head.



6.Small children may be accompanied by 1 chaperone only, please. Please do not plan on dressing in the h/m room unless have made arrangements on this. The rooms usually get crowded and hot with too many people in them.



7. If you have a certain style for an outfit, please let me know in advance.



8. Please be on time when you are scheduled. If you are late I will go on to the next client.

I know most everything on here is about Wee Miss, but my daughter is younger and we don't really know what to expect. We have done very few pageants and are NOT on the glitzy end of the scale. I would like for her to do well, that's the whole reason anyone does this, but i also don't want to get "crazy" about it.I don't have $500 to spend on a dress (esp. after paying fees/photo) but I want her to be competitive. Any advise out there? I have no idea who else is in this or how well we stack up. Just like any other mother out there I think my child is beautiful, but doesn't every one! I just want to know what to expect..and what the judges are looking for in a younger child!!And does the dress have much to do with it? You would think if you have this awesome dress of course your child will stick out...but isn't there more to it??? Thanks for the help!!

In the tiny tot groups, the dress doesn't matter. The score is based on "grooming." Children in prelim dresses have won the titles just as often as girls in glitz dresses. Also for pics, don't go out and spend a fortune. The judges are looking for the natural photos. A national winning child who competed with my daughter two years ago didn't even win any of the photogenic events. It was a child who had Walmart pics that won ALL the photo categories. She was also the ONLY non-glitz child that year in that Tiny Tot category. Keep it simple and natural. Your goal is to make sure your child has fun on the stage - Hope this advice helps.

After my child had successfully competed in pageants from the age of 3-12, the biggest winning edge I believe she had was not looks (you are right, there are many different beautiful girls out there), not the expense of the dress (except when stepping up to the state or national arena), but her smile and personality. More people remembered my kid for the happiness that glowed when she was on stage than anything else. And, now that I have sat in the judges seat on multiple occasions, I can honestly tell you that when a child is looking straight at you with a fabulous glow on their face, you can forgive her for the little string hanging off her dress. The priceless sweet smile of an innocent child will far surpass any expense of a high-priced garment!

I was at the Little Miss Columbia Dec 11, I don't know the other winners from Edgefield, but I do know that "Teen Miss Edgefield" was Annie Flowers. She MC'ed the LM Columbia, they said she was 2004 Teen Miss Barnwell Co. and 2005 Edgefield. She did a wonderful job MC'ing, she was also 1st runneup at the 2004 State pageant. Very lovely girl, very poised and well mannered, such a "Classic".

"Wee Miss" is a huge deal this year! Lots of "total package" girls. Glad I'm not a judge! "The Usuals" have a lot of stiff competition this year and will probably end up being the "has beens". Sorry to be so blunt, but there will be a lot of surprises this year, there already have been in the prelims.

What exactly do the judges look for in the "Wee Miss" division as our 5 & 6 year old daughters walk across the stage?

What separates the 15 finalists from the total 30 or so "Wee Miss" contestants?

What are they looking for to decide who will be in the final 5 from the 15 finalists?

What makes the difference, in the judges minds, between the 4th runner-up and the 3rd runner-up, the 3rd runner-up and the 2nd runner-up, the 2nd runner-up and the 1st runner-up, the 1st runner-up and the winner in the "Wee Miss" division?

I ask these questions so that we can better understand what we need to focus on and practice to help our daughter have the best chance of making the finals, or placing, or possibly even winning.

Please help us to understand what we need to focus our attention on.

Any advice for the 2 year old age division (wee miss tiny tot) would be helpful. We will be competing in the Lil' Miss Columbia next weekend. Does hair and makeup need to be a big deal for the prelim?

You may say that the Little Miss will be the Kelley child. Well she has been beat by Nikki every time. And Nikki was the over all winner 2003-2004.Also, her mother and father are connected with the pageant. Her mom holds preliminaries and her father sings at the pageant and at other events. As far as Ashley Fowler she is just stunning. She is like a perfect flawless child that can do any interview and bring home 10's I do think that she has a coach. not quite sure who she uses. She was also Young Miss South Carolina the same year that Nikki Ward won. Mark these girls on your list.

Do you know who Lisa Quinn is? How is she connected with the pageant?

If this thing is so politcal and only those from the Pee Dee area win, then, how did Lisa Quinn's daughter, Casey Quinn win LMSC Overall Tiny Tot 2004?

These people are from Gaffney, SC of all places! That's not in the lower part of the state. That's in the Upstate!

Not even the most powerful parts of the upstate like Greenville/Spartanburg!

What kind of questions do they ask a 5 year old?

What are the judges looking for in a 5 year olds' response that would justify a good score versus a lesser score?

Could anyone give me some examples of what they would ask and exactly what the judges are looking for in the interview portion of the "Wee Miss" division competition?

Any other comments or ideas about the interview?

My daughter competed as Wee Miss Tiny Tot two years ago. The child that won the group was also the supreme winner. She had only competed in one pageant prior (the prelim). Her photos were Walmart and she wore a white off the rack dress. She won all but Baby Face. The little girl had a natural cuteness without the pageant hair or makeup.She beat girls that were/are completely glitz. Her pictures beat the professional expensive pics. Based on our personal experience, the judges were looking for the completely natural child.
