Subject: We are planning a trip to Baltimore in June. (inside)

There will be four couples, no children. We will arrive sometime Friday, and go to the Red Sox/Orioles baseball game that night (we already have the tickets). We will be in town on Saturday, and maybe part of Sunday. What would be good to see? We not big on general museums, but historical sites might be interesting. What else would anyone recommend? What restaurants are good? What areas should we stay away from (and I know every city has its dicey areas)? Many, many thanks to anyone who has some information for us!

Definitely take a harbor cruise. There are several boat companies with varying tour times and lengths. Baltimore's harbor is wonderful to see from the water.

Moored in the harbor is the USS Constellation which is the last Civil War ship afloat and the last all-sails ship built by the US Navy. There is also a decommissioned Coast Guard cutter and a World War II submarine. Visitors can take tours of these ships and hear about their history. It's a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy history.

Also nearby is Fort McHenry, a restored fort from the War of 1812. The fort's flag, waving amid the battle, inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner.

And if you have time, as a JAG fan, you definitely should go to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis. It's about 30 - 40 minutes from Baltimore and very much worth the trip. You can take guided tours of the campus and some of the buildings, including the fabulous chapel, and imagine Harm there as a young cadet. There's also a gift shop and a restaurant onsite where visitors may eat.
