Subject: The BEST way to clean house is to move. I agree, it is amazing what we can amass, when there is a closet or basement to just "stick things." Every time I have moved, I've had a truckload of stuff to donate & another one to trash. Of course, I've never been a house for 35 years! Good luck on your move!!!
In reply to: carramor 's message, "Guess its finally dawning on me that my house sold within three days of being listed! Was expecting it would take a little longer and have had to really turn up the burners. Lived here for 35 years -- no one should be allowed to accumulate so much 'stuff'! Maybe I'm really a horder. Have to out of here in 10 days. Am getting soooo tired......but, next month this time I should be settled. LOL Wish me luck!" on 19:50:59 06/04/12 Mon

That's exactly what I went through to sell my Mom's house by myself and living 100 miles away! I cleaned out whatever I could whenever I was there. My piles were: my sister, three cousins, and an aunt, plus the trash, donate and save piles. The save pile was all mine -- yeah, all mine. Of all these women and their children, none were interested in, "that old stuff" aka antique furniture, china, crystal, etc. (I've been selling anything that will go and will finance my move quite nicely!) Also burned up two shreaders getting rid of all the personal info on every relative I think I have/had. Bottom line here, for me its genetic! Can certainly call this 'adventure' a walk through history.......

[> [> [> Forgot after all that cleaning it still took 16 months to sell the house! Think God is looking out for me. After all, Mom did leave this earth in early April to 'sing with the angels'. -- carramor, 16:57:42 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> [> [> carramor, you are absolutely right. We moved into that house in 1957 when I was still in high school! Dad died in 1999, that's 42 years of collecting stuff. My mom's mother had died in '85, and she still had a lot of her stuff, and my dad still had some of his mother's stuff, and she died in about 1945. Talk about antiques... LOL We also got quite a bit of money from all the stuff that she sold to antique dealers. It's amazing what that OLD stuff can be worth! -- Lee, 08:39:17 06/06/12 Wed [1]
