Subject: Guess its finally dawning on me that my house sold within three days of being listed! Was expecting it would take a little longer and have had to really turn up the burners. Lived here for 35 years -- no one should be allowed to accumulate so much 'stuff'! Maybe I'm really a horder. Have to out of here in 10 days. Am getting soooo tired......but, next month this time I should be settled. LOL Wish me luck!

[> The BEST way to clean house is to move. I agree, it is amazing what we can amass, when there is a closet or basement to just "stick things." Every time I have moved, I've had a truckload of stuff to donate & another one to trash. Of course, I've never been a house for 35 years! Good luck on your move!!! -- doc, 06:07:21 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> Wow, that was fast! After my dad died, it took my mom amd me two years to clean out her house so we could sell it. Talk about hoarding...LOL -- Lee, 08:00:14 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> [> Lee, bet your Mom lived in her house for many years. inside -- I got wordy -- carramor, 16:54:12 06/05/12 Tue [1]

That's exactly what I went through to sell my Mom's house by myself and living 100 miles away! I cleaned out whatever I could whenever I was there. My piles were: my sister, three cousins, and an aunt, plus the trash, donate and save piles. The save pile was all mine -- yeah, all mine. Of all these women and their children, none were interested in, "that old stuff" aka antique furniture, china, crystal, etc. (I've been selling anything that will go and will finance my move quite nicely!) Also burned up two shreaders getting rid of all the personal info on every relative I think I have/had. Bottom line here, for me its genetic! Can certainly call this 'adventure' a walk through history.......

[> [> [> Forgot after all that cleaning it still took 16 months to sell the house! Think God is looking out for me. After all, Mom did leave this earth in early April to 'sing with the angels'. -- carramor, 16:57:42 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> [> [> carramor, you are absolutely right. We moved into that house in 1957 when I was still in high school! Dad died in 1999, that's 42 years of collecting stuff. My mom's mother had died in '85, and she still had a lot of her stuff, and my dad still had some of his mother's stuff, and she died in about 1945. Talk about antiques... LOL We also got quite a bit of money from all the stuff that she sold to antique dealers. It's amazing what that OLD stuff can be worth! -- Lee, 08:39:17 06/06/12 Wed [1]

[> You are truly blessed to have sold your house so fast! Remeber, it's YOU that makes it your home, not all the stuff -- take this chance to clear out things you truly don't need -- someone out there will love something you don't use anymore -- have a 'donate' pile, a 'save' pile, a 'throw out' pile and soon you'll be on your way to your next exciting phase of life! All the best! -- mj, 08:02:51 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> Wow! Out in ten days? I would croak if I had to weed out that fast! Guess that makes me a hoarder, too...! (Good Luck!) -- Deemus, 14:37:12 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> 35 years of stuff and you have 10 days?!?! I've had a couple of experiences like that and what ended up happening was that we had so little time, we packed EVERYTHING and went through NOTHING. My mom is still trying to go through my grandmother's stuff after moving her in a hurry like that a few years ago. -- JJ Ronda--Congrats and good luck!, 17:10:54 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> Thanks for all the good wishes. There are boxes, boxes everywhere -- attic completely cleaned out; am taking a room at a time and boxing up -- packin and pitchin. Will probably have the 'vapors' when the moving company agent comes tomorrow to give the estimate. Did find out that Habitat for Humanity will pick-up good, usable furniture -- not taking the big furniture 'cause don't think it will fit into an apartment. An apartment that I haven't picked out yet -- why rush into anything? Will be staying with a friend, so at least I won't be homeless....... -- carramor, 17:33:48 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> WOW! That's amazing that your house sold that fast. If I had to move in 10 days after living in this house for 40 yrs I would have a heart attack. And I am not a hoarder! LOL! In fact, I'm the opposite. But, with all my family tree info and crafting stuff plus my husband's computer room. It would take for ever. Please be careful about shredding old family documents. You may want them some day to do your family tree. LOL! After my Granmother died my Aunt Mary burned all my Grammy's old letters from her father. I could have killed her. Aunt Mary said "who wants that old stuff anyway" ME ME!! -- Cathy F., 20:55:35 06/05/12 Tue [1]

[> [> You are so right, CathyF. I do heritage scrapbooking & have documents & pictures back to 1800. There are still a number of things that disappeared over the years. One of the things I really wish would've been saved was my grandparents love letters. My aunt was cleaning out my grandmother's condo & threw them out, arghhh! She thought no one would want them. Luckily, my mother was around when my aunt started in on the old photos. -- doc, 07:23:46 06/07/12 Thu [1]

[> Well, I'd be another one who would have a tough time trying to get out in 10 days. I've lived in this house for 24 years and there's something in every nook, corner and cranny. I'd need LOTS of BP medicine to make it out on time. -- jenks, 12:28:35 06/06/12 Wed [1]
