[> My story inside -- Sunset, 11:27:13 11/14/11 Mon [1]

I used to jog a little bit but increased the distance a couple years ago because I was diagnosed of osteoporosis. This year I wanted to work towards some goals so I entered a 5k new year resolution race and a couple of other 5k race and one 10k race, mostly for charities fund raising purpose. Running a marathon was one of my dreams for years but I always thought that would be possible even when I was younger because it’s too hard and I didn’t have the time to train. I have more time the last few years since my kids are away in college but thought I would be too old (58) to attempt a marathon for the first time. My son got me a non-runner’s marathon’s trainer book. I read it and decided why not? DJE was also one of my inspirations!

I followed the 16 weeks training program started at end of July. I ran 4 times per week and didn’t miss any training runs even when I was on vacation in the over 100 degrees Las Vegas. I ran about 400 miles within the 16 weeks. Yesterday morning I ran my marathon and completed it! I actually ran more than 26.2 miles because I got totally lost when I missed the turn at the 25th mile. I had to stop motorists to ask for direction. It was frustrating but I didn’t give up and kept running even I was dragging my feet. Took me over 6 hours to cross the finish line but I reached my goal! The training and the marathon itself was difficult and challenging but an amazing journey because I went after my dream and made it into a reality. I expanded my personal limits, physically and mentally!

[> I meant to say I thought it would be an impossible dream. I was wrong. It doesn't have to be somebody else crossing the finish line. It can me and you too! -- Sunset, 13:02:13 11/14/11 Mon [1]
