Subject: East Coast Earthquake...

Did anyone feel it yesterday. I went in to work early and it happened just after I started to work. We were pretty busy and I was running around and never felt it. My clinical supervisor was in the bathroom with it hit. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that I didn't feel it! Buildings in downtown Pittsburgh were evacuated while they checked for structural damage. My hospital is about 45 miles north of Pittsburgh and our maintenance department was also checking for cracks. Today, engineers are checking all of the bridges in and around Pgh. and we have over 450 bridges.

My cousin who lives in So. Cal. said that the reason it was felt in so many stated is because we donot have as many small fault lines as they do in Cal.

Hope everyone lived through the ordeal yesterday!

[> in North Texas all we worry about is Tornadoes- : ) - but I was shocked to see the news flash - a friend of mine in DC said they all thought they were sliding into the sink hole from the neighboring construction site. When she got home the water bottle she'd left uncapped had knocked over and spilled on all her papers - an unexpected mess. What a surprise for the North east -- chris k, 07:03:38 08/24/11 Wed [1]

[> My daughter, who works at a Vermont hospital, said they felt it, as did my son who works right here in Glens Falls, NY, but I'm wobbly and didn't feel a thing. One news report said that we felt it this far north because it was a shallow fault area. -- jenks, 11:49:37 08/24/11 Wed [1]

[> I've felt 5 or 6 earthquakes here in west coast Canada , and it's always the most eerie feeling, not to mention a bit scary. I just hope it never happens when I'm on one of the many high bridges around here. In this area, we are always fearful of the Big One. -- Cece, 14:59:53 08/24/11 Wed [1]

[> My family members up and down the e. coast are all okay but I'm afraid my trip east tomrrow night might get hurricaned out. It's possibly going to come ashore in the corridor I have to get thru on two flight changes (Charlotte NC and DC). Here's hoping. -- jan, 19:48:53 08/24/11 Wed [1]

[> I live about a 90 min drive from the epicenter. I was at Target, and stood there in awe feeling it rumble my feet, watching things swing on racks, hearing the low rumble. I knew it wouldn't be a big emergency. If that's the biggest East Coast earth quake in decaces, then we're all good. It was only 0.1 magnitude below the Loma Prieta quake that leveled San Francisco during the World Series in '89. What a differenece geology makes!! -- The Chief (If you're wondering what caused it, it was the US's $14 Trillion deficit check bouncing... think they felt *that* all the way to China?), 21:37:32 08/24/11 Wed [1]

[> [> I heard on the radio it was all the founding fathers rolling over in their graves! My daughter is in Maryland, she said after seeing her house sway she doesn't want anything more to do with earthquakes. I told her don't worry about it you've got a hurricane coming to take your mind off it! Good thing she's a gulf coast girl, she knows just what to do. -- usmgrad, 10:44:22 08/25/11 Thu [1]

[> We felt it in southeastern NC. It was my first earthquake! And we've already had waterspouts/tornadoes this week, and now we're gonna get a hurricane on Saturday. Busy weather week for us. -- Pretz, 19:13:21 08/25/11 Thu [1]
