Valerie Brooks won Mrs TX America on her 15th try and made top 5 or 10 (?) at Mrs America I find that inspiring she never quit & now she too is a former 10/21/13 Mon I personally can't justify competing 15 times for a title (or more than twice like the other person) that's a lot of money, time, etc that can be spent on family/needs/other interests -- That's just way too much for me, 10/21/13 Mon I completely agree. I have never competed in any pageant more than twice, however, if there was a title I wanted badly enough, then three times would be the absolute max since I guess third time's a charm. If I can't win a pageant after trying 3 times, then I'd just have to assume it's not for me! If it was just about the "experience" then I think someone would just alternate between different pageants, every year for 15 years. But when it's the same one 15 times straight, then it's definitely about winning that specific title. In Mrs./Ms. there is no aging out so some will compete as many times as it takes. If I was married and I could afford it I would compete at the state level until I win for the big 3 yearly. I have friends who spend an average of $50 a week on Lottery tickets and they have been doing this for years. Do you really think I give a darn what anyone does with their money or how many times they spend their money on the same thing over and over? (NT) -- Kudos to them!, 10/25/13 Fri Miss America requires every young lady to pay a Children's Miracle Network fee for every local they compete in and ever state competition. That can add up when you exhaust your supporters after the 3 or 4th pageant. Plus all the wardrobe you are required to wear and purchase for competition. VERY expensive, but they have mom's and dad's to pay. Some of the younger MRS still have mommy and daddy to help them out, especially those who competed as young ladies and never won, but for the most part it is on the family of the woman competing to pay.
