Brewington was diagnosed with ADHD that is not a mental disorder. It is physiological. It is the misfiring of neurons in the frontal lobe. Brewington got a raw deal. Period.
As for the local court system, in legal circles Lawrenceburg has the reputation of overcharging and setting ridiculously high bail.
As for the jail, google ongoing case MASSONG v. Dearborn County Sheriff. The highlights: an inmate was severely beaten during which he called for help "Help! They're trying to kill me!" In depositions the guard -whose name escapes me - saw it go down, but claims he thought the other inmates were "playing."
