An open letter to the voters of Greendale.

I will make this short and sweet as to not take of more of anyone’s time than is necessary. The city of Greendale needs new leadership, and it needs it now. Morale within our city departments is at an all time low and I implore you, the citizens of Greendale, to have the courage to make changes at the polls this November. The good old boy network has to come to an end. The question you must ask yourself is how you can justify the re-election of a Mayor that has the following in his immediate background:
Fact 1.) The sitting Mayor (Douglas Hedrick), and his appointed city attorney (Richard Butler), have several thousands of dollars of unpaid property taxes on several pieces of property. What would happen to you or me?
Fact 2.) The sitting Mayor and the city attorney have applied for and are in the process of receiving grant money in excess of $300,000 for a personal business venture . Can you not pay your property taxes on just one piece of property, and then be approved for this kind of handout?
Fact 3.) The city of Greendale has on several occasions taken legal action against businesses with an overreaching sign ordinance. Businesses are forced to fight frivolous legal actions. Businesses must ultimately recover these fees by charging a higher cost for goods and services. The City under the current administration has no respect for your individual property rights as a business owner in Greendale.
Opinion 1.) 12 years is too long for anyone period. Term limits should be imposed for the position of Mayor.
Opinion 2.) I have spoken to many people in the town of Greendale who have privately told me they want a change in leadership, but express genuine fear of reprisal if they voice their opinion too loud. Who in the hell wants to live like that?
I could go on and on about all of the inequities that have been bestowed upon the citizens of Greendale from the current administration, but if the above is not enough then I would have to question whether or not you even care or want change. The time to make the difference is right now. I hope that the people will reward themselves, and deliver swift, decisive, and honorable change this Tuesday.
