Hollywood loves grand mismatches, the merging of opposites.

Now the TV movie "Truth Be Told" gives us one: David James Elliott and Candace Cameron-Bure pretend to be people who are pretending to be married.

Elliott and Cameron-Bure? We can get past the age thing - he's 50, she just turned 35 - but there's another matter: He's 6-foot-4; she's 5-foot-2.

Elliott shrugs it off. "From where I'm standing, I'm always looking down on people," he said.

Sure, "JAG" gave him tall co-stars - Andrea Parker (5-foot-10), Tracey Needham (5-11), Catherine Bell (5-10) - and love interests. Even then, he said, they sometimes stood on boxes for close-ups.

Once you accept the vertical disparity, these are compatible souls. Cameron-Bure (married to hockey star Valeri Bure) has three kids; Elliott (married to actress Nanci Chambers) has two. They talk about needing more family-friendly shows, sort of like her old "Full House" and (sometimes) his "JAG."

So now they've done "Truth Be Told," in which Cameron-Bure asks a widower and his kids to pretend to be his family. "It's a charming story," Elliott said, "something my little guy (age 8) could watch and enjoy."

It also gave Cameron-Bure status in her family, because it was directed by Jonathan Frakes, the former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" co-star.

"I'm not a big Trekkie, but my dad loved the original 'Star Trek,'" she said. Her brother, actor Kirk Cameron, is even named after Capt. James T. Kirk.
Meanwhile, she continues her supporting role in "Make It or Break It," the series about gymnasts and their moms.

Elliott has done a pilot film - temporarily called "Good Christian Bitches" -in which his wife is played by Kristin Chenoweth - who stands 4-foot-11. "So they get smaller with every job."
