It was okay, the plot was interesting enough...I really wasnt sure about who did what til the very end.

The writers in this show are really good for that...

but...

Not nearly enough Jimmy tonight.

I'm glad we got some spoilers, I cant wait to see Jimmy playing basketball and pumping a little iron.(smile)

  - I'm with you on the doubts, and it isn't the first time. There seems to be less emphasis on court procedure and evidence than we saw in JAG. I keep watching, hoping to get more about JC, but it's getting harder to wade through the rest of the show. Does this show do only murders? - Because of a phone call I didn't see the beginning but do agree that there wasn't enough Jimmy. I'm interested that so many former JAG actors are popping up in this show.   - You know, that is where I think some of the plots have huge holes in them. There have been other episodes like that. I think they need to hire a medical consultant, if theyre going to use it as evidence. That was true some weeks back about a prescription, and also about a patients level of pain post surgery being evidence of a certain amount of a drug being withheld. It was just too far fetched. - One thing that bothered me was the money angle. Where did all that money go. If it was taken out of the womans bank account it had to go somewhere. The answer its easy to hide cash was a cop out.   - I think that's improving too, though I will agree, some of the first few episodes he was in left him looking sort of 'boxy' The episode before this last one, it was obvious to me anyway, that the suit was cut much better. I agree that he's got a great body, and I like seeing it too, but JAE can make a well cut suit...uniform or T shirt look like a million bucks.   - I think the more recent episodes have him looking better in the suits - not as boxy. Even though he looked great in all the uniforms, I think he looks equally as handsome in the suits -very distinguished, classy. Then again, he looks great in anything he wears (with the exception of the "put on some pounds" outfits at the end of JAG). The captains uniform redeemed the clothing department on JAG.     - Scott Gemmill was a great writer with JAG during the early seasons after season 1. I think he added a lot of humor and just plain good writing to JAG, which wassorely missed when he went over to ER. - I've been watching a little clip of him in that scene over and over. It shows so much. How much he loves his daughter, his sense of humor, Sense of responsibility, a feeling of comraderie. All things that could make me love the character that goes with that winning smile. But oddly enough, I didn't even think of Harm. Sometimes patience pays off for networks

HOLLYWOOD — When Close to Home premiered in fall 2005, the CBS show centered on a happily married suburban woman returning to her career as a prosecuting attorney after the birth of her first child.

Whether it was its Tuesday time slot, a whisper-quiet marketing campaign or its working-woman-centric focus, the program's ratings didn't exactly pop. It moved to Fridays and did better there, but Close to Home ended its freshman season on the renewal bubble.
The show hung on, but by its sophomore premiere much had changed. Behind the scenes, Close to Home had a new executive producer, and its story lines dealt increasingly with career and crime and less with home and child. But that can happen when you kill off the main character's husband and introduce a new hunk, played by former JAG star David James Elliott.
"He's a leading-man type that tests very well with the ladies," said Eric Overmyer, the show's new executive producer.
But Close to Home's most notable makeover has come in its ratings, which have gone from wobbly to fairly sure-footed. The show has picked up an additional 2 million weekly viewers this season, upping its audience to the 11 million-plus range, good enough on some weeks to finish among the top 30 most-watched programs.
TV is numbers game
Television isn't fantasyland, and if your numbers don't add up, you're gone. Just ask CBS about its high-profile, high-cost crime drama Smith, or NBC about its oldster sitcom Twenty Good Years, or Fox about its aptly named drama Vanished. They're all washed-out members of this year's freshman class that couldn't get past its first semester.
Between sidelining low-rated shows and cheering the obvious winners such as NBC's Heroes lies one of network executives' hardest tasks: demonstrating patience with new programs that haven't found an audience yet. While the last season generated some clear winners, such as CBS's Criminal Minds and Fox's Prison Break, the class of 2005-06 produced more shows with smaller constituencies that are still looking to break away from the pack.
Sophomore shows such as Close to Home, CW's horror-thriller Supernatural, Fox's crime investigative drama Bones and CBS's sitcom How I Met Your Mother have shored up some of their initial ratings doldrums.
Ratings aren't supernatural
Like most second-year shows that didn't blow up the Nielsen ratings, Supernatural has undergone a creative back-and-forth with the network and the studio in a bid to draw the largest possible audience. Eric Kripke, the show's creator and an executive producer, described the process last season with the now-defunct WB as "fairly amicable" but admits it was not without its tensions.
Last season, the show was given a sound lead-in with Gilmore Girls, but the gap in tone between the two genres hurt Supernatural's numbers. Then in a be-careful-what-you-wish-for scenario, Kripke successfully lobbied to have the show moved to Thursday nights following the popular and well-regarded Smallville. His request was greenlighted by WB, and the two shows did indeed mesh well together.
But then this season, ABC announced Grey's Anatomy was moving to that same time slot to compete with CBS's CSI, which meant that Supernatural would face two of the most popular shows on television.
"It's been a roller-coaster ride for us," Kripke said. "It's like we're the Japanese businessmen beneath Godzilla and Mothra."

Actor David James Elliott is a Toronto native, but he doesn't follow the Blue Jays or Maple Leafs. The ups and downs of following team sports turn him off, except when it comes to Southern Cal football. The Los Angeles resident loves the Trojans. Elliott plays Assistant District Attorney James Conlon on the CBS series "Close to Home," which airs Fridays at 9 p.m.
Is there a good atmosphere at USC football games?
Oh yeah. USC fans are diehard fans. It's just a great atmosphere, man. I love hanging out there. I swim at the pool there. I work out at the gym occasionally. I'm a member of the health club there. Just hanging out is great because it's such a positive atmosphere.
What about [former USC and current New Orleans Saints running back] Reggie Bush and the rookie season he had?
He's one of the most phenomenal athletes ever. He's incredible. It's unfortunate about his legal woes, but aside from that, you can't take away his athleticism. His last season is when I caught him at USC, and I was just blown away. He could do stuff that was just not human.
Coming from Toronto, do you follow the Blue Jays or Maple Leafs?
You know what? In my life there is so much that is out of my control, that I always felt that it's painful watching team sports on television or anywhere. You can't control what is going on and you get caught up in it. . . .
So that is what stopped me; that and the fact that there are so many teams and so many players. Some guys know all the statistics. I just don't know where they find the time. . . .
I'm a triathlete. I did the Ironman a couple years ago. I've run about 15 official marathons. I'm training constantly. We do football workouts. We go out to the practice field at USC with a couple buddies and we do this football workout. We're constantly mixing it up. I love sports -- playing it and actually going out there and doing it makes me be in awe of people like Reggie Bush who are phenomenal.
What got you into it? Your love for competition and wanting to stay in shape?
Absolutely, and I've got some pals who are tight with the football organization there. They said, 'Hey, we've got these sideline passes. Would you like to go to the game?' I said, 'Yeah, that would be great.' I started going and just got caught up in the team and that chess game.
It's so cool to see it go down, but it's also frustrating. Winning is great. Me, I prefer a bloodbath. I prefer they go out there and walk away with it. That way I can relax and enjoy the rest of my day. But when it's tight right through the end, it's agonizing.
It must have been tough watching USC lose to UCLA then.
Everyone just assumed that they were going to walk away with that game, and I think they did too. I was a little concerned about that attitude for one reason or another. But they came back in that Michigan game and were incredible. [Quarterback John David] Booty played phenomenal. So hopefully they can take what they did in that game into next season and parlay it into a national championship.

  - I want to add that I agree about his smile. It's just breathtaking! - Lighting was much better inside also had sun shining outside window , we could see his whole face, outside scene were great. Love his protective/firm hand Dad role. Jessie seems a good fit and does look enough like him to be his daughter. The last scenes with AB were great since we got to see his million kilowatt smile several times and a little of his "personal" side with the remark about saving the information about the race car driver. It moved to Fridays and did better there, but "Close to Home" ended its freshman season on the renewal bubble.

The show hung on, but by its sophomore premiere much had changed. Behind the scenes, "Close to Home" had a new executive producer, and its story lines dealt increasingly with career and crime and less with home and child. But that can happen when you kill off the main character's husband and introduce a new hunk, played by former "JAG" star David James Elliott.

But "Close to Home's" most notable makeover has come in its ratings. The show has picked up an additional 2 million weekly viewers, upping its audience to the 11 million-plus range.

"Out-of-the-box hits are a true rarity," said Peter Roth, president of Warner Bros. Studios, which also produces "Supernatural."

Network patience (yes, it exists) pays off
Four sophomore series -- 'Close to Home,' 'Supernatural,' 'Bones' and 'How I Met Your Mother' -- benefit from careful nurturing.

When "Close to Home" premiered in fall 2005, the CBS show centered on a happily married suburban woman returning to her career as a prosecuting attorney after the birth of her first child. Whether it was its Tuesday time slot, a whisper-quiet marketing campaign or its working woman-centric focus, the program's ratings didn't exactly pop. It moved to Fridays and did better there, but "Close to Home" ended its freshman season on the renewal bubble.

The show hung on, but by its sophomore premiere much had changed. Behind the scenes, "Close to Home" had a new executive producer and its story lines dealt more and more with career and crime and less and less with home and child. But that can happen when you kill off the main character's husband and introduce a new hunk, played by former "JAG" star David James Elliott.

"He's a leading-man type that tests very well with the ladies," said Eric Overmeyer, the show's new executive producer. "We're doing our best to get his shirt off as much as we can this season, though this is difficult because he's a district attorney."

But "Close to Home's" most notable makeover has come in its ratings, which have gone from wobbly to fairly sure-footed. The show has picked up an additional 2 million weekly viewers this season, upping its audience to the 11 million-plus range, good enough on some weeks to finish among the top 30 most-watched programs.

Television isn't fantasyland, and if your numbers don't add up, you're gone. Just ask CBS about its high-profile, high-cost crime drama "Smith," or NBC about its oldster sitcom "Twenty Good Years," or Fox about its aptly named drama "Vanished." They're all washed-out members of this year's freshman class that couldn't get past its first semester.

Between sidelining low-rated shows and cheering the obvious winners such as NBC's "Heroes" lies one of network executives' hardest tasks: demonstrating patience with new programs that haven't found an audience yet. While the last season generated some clear winners, such as CBS' "Criminal Minds" and Fox's "Prison Break," the class of 2005-06 produced more shows with smaller constituencies that are still looking to break away from the pack.

Sophomore shows such as "Close to Home," the CW's horror-thriller "Supernatural," Fox's crime investigative drama "Bones" and CBS' sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" have shored up some of their initial ratings doldrums. But they haven't completely outrun the scheduling ax just yet. For now, the networks will wait and see, hoping to build the promising shows into prime-time stalwarts.

- What I LOVE about this HB Portal community, is that the posters are kind, warm, intelligent, friendly, and fun. How do they expect to get the younger viewers of Ghost Whisperer to stay tuned if the show isn't on? It's frustrating because I do enjoy the show and want it to succeed. There's a good article in USA Weekend (an insert in the Sunday Paper) regarding demographics. The Article is called: No Longer Hip by Jay Dyckman. I'm at home and I don't have a scanner. If anyone else has access to this article, please scan it and post. Bottom line he said is: "I get it. It's over. At this point I am not going to be Punk'd and my rid will not be Pimp'd". Which brings up the age old arguement-what are we going to do about this. Who can we start writing to or is this just a lost cause.
