Author: anyone know the story?
Subject: The article quoted a mother who said her daughters were banned from competing in a championship because they wouldn't wear wigs. I can't imagine this actually happening.
In reply to: Who rules the roost? 's message, "Ok so I read in the Irish Post that parents are havng a hard time with the cost of ID, and are blaming tcs commision(sp) etc.. Parents when are we going to take the control and stop spending 1,000 on a dress, If you want to do all the feis in every country, then STOP complaining, too many parents want their dd to follow the latest trends, Stop encouraging your dds to keep up with the kid next door. What are you teaching them. We are responsible for the overall layout of feis, dresses etc. I know tcs and adjs are to blame for lots of thing in ID, but parents when are you going to stop playing the blame game?" on Fri, Feb 09 2007, 17:15:40

[> [> [> That expanation makes sense. Still, a shame that a champ dancer is banned for such a silly reason. It should be about the dancing. -- JMO, Tue, Feb 13 2007, 17:09:29 [1]

[> [> [> There's one TC in Scotland that I know of that won't let her dancers compete either unless they have the RIGHT wig, the RIGHT shoes, the RIGHT dress etc. I know a few of my friends don't compete any more as they just can't afford all the latest gear. TC's should advise you but they shouldn't ban you from competing if you don't have all the latest gear. Can make you feel really inferior to the "class favourites" who seem to have a never-ending supply of shoes/dresses/wigs. -- old_dancemum, Sun, Feb 18 2007, 22:54:06 [1]

[> [> [> [> Its not AC, but its not just parents, mainly its TC's. No-one will dispute that as dancers giving a stage performance, that 'good presentation' is important. However, good presentation can simply be: clean, tidy & a school uniform. I just wonder have any of those TC's, so adamant about keeping up or even trying to outdo the 'latest trend' ever considered the following: 1. Loss of Champ dancers, who are dedicated to dance but just can't afford it anymore. 2. A crop of dancers who spend more time focusing on 'dressing up' than their actual dancing. and 3. The prospect of losing MANY potential talented dancers before they have had a chance because they have been scared off by the mad cost of the costumes. I really think they should seriously consider this as it may all come back to bite them where it hurts! -- A uniform look for all please, lets get back to dancing., Mon, Feb 19 2007, 1:00:27 [1]

[> [> [> [> Does anyone else think this sort of thing shouldn't be tolerated? It's unbelievable that children can't participate in competitions because their parents are unable to afford the "required gear". -- sad state of of affairs, Mon, Feb 19 2007, 22:23:00 [1]

[> [> [> [> [> Not all T.C's have this attitude and there are some out there who discourage parents from parting with enormous amounts of money for costumes and still promote irish dance as a cultural activity and not a beauty contest. Good results are just as achievable in a £400 dress as they are in a £1400 dress. -- IMHO, Mon, Feb 19 2007, 22:57:01 [1]
