Hi Syd - Frankies explanation is spot on. The water is pushed up & away from the slicing action of the bow. I believe that the length of protrusion of the bulbous part is quite important - if it were to long then the benefit would be lost. I wonder who came up with the idea? He must be sitting pretty!
