Guys Irish Dance Too!
GUYS IRISH DANCE TOO!
WELCOME! This board is dedicated to all the boys, men and their parents who wish to share thier ideas, thoughts, questions, etc. about Irish Dance. Enjoy and be nice. Thanks for visiting!

  • ID stuff for the gents? A couple of years ago, I saw what I think was a lawn ornament...it was black iron/metal and was a silouhette of a male dancer (jumping or something). Does this sound familiar to anyone? Maybe not a lawn ornament. Any other places for male images? -- Thanks!, 03:34:23 11/19/09 Thu [2]

We waited and waited, not having a feel for when he'd need to jump up and dance. We know a bit better this year, but still unsure.

Hi everyone, I am doing college research on Irish immigration to the United States in the last twenty years. I am collecting data right now and have created an online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=C8JgDls1EbymPIGYQuFQ3A_3d_3d If you immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland in the last twenty years I would greatly appreciate your taking my survey as it provides invaluable information for the study. As well I'd greatly appreciate it if you could pass this survey along to anyone else. Thank you.

Hi, All. This is a link to a shirt that I have. I actually have two of them, both size 14. Just in case you have twin dancers!!

One is brand new in the package, the other has been worn probably 5 times. Great shape, not even stinky.

You can have both for $20 ($30 each, new).

    Thanks!

  • Boy costume dilemma. Advice welcome. More inside. -- Boy dancer mom, 11:12:34 07/29/09 Wed [10]
My younger teen son is an OC/WQ dancer. He is having a new shirt made for the O. Previously, shirts were chosen for him. This time he has input. I thought that would be a good thing. Silly me! We got several samples and I think there are 2-3 promising options that would look nice on him. He has fixated on a very garish option. Aside from the fact that I don't think the shade is flattering, it is a color/pattern that will . . (trying to think of a good way to say this) uh, reinforce stereotypes about boy dancers. (That's an understatement, by the way). He knows this but he is a kid who is confident and frankly thinks it's funny when people make assumptions. In short, he doesn't care. His argument is that the point of an ID shirt is to get noticed and if it is well tailored and he loves it, who cares? He has worked very hard and I want him to be happy with his costume, especially since he plans to retire after this year. Dad rolls his eyes and says "if he's happy, I'm happy". What to do? Grit my teeth and honor his wishes? Go behind his back and get the TC to veto it? TC might be ok with the fabric - really don't know. Not sure what judges would think. I do know what the in-laws will think. :) Suggestions?

  • What age do most of the boys start dropping out at? -- curious, 18:41:29 07/15/09 Wed [13]
With the girls the demands of high school athletics cause a huge number to drop out by 9th grade.

I imagine it is the same with the boys. The good news I guess is that for those that stick with it some of the numbers battles are reduced in getting to the podium.
