I have an 8th grade PC ds who is also very involved with his Boy Scout troop, but doesn't let on much with them he's in ID. He's about to get his "Life" (one under Eagle) ranking next month and he went to the BSA national Jamboree this past summer. Are there others out there who do both Scouts and ID? Is it hard to balance between dance and scout activities for you? He has a required campout the weekend before the O!

Just created a fan page on Facebook. I'm not an expert at this, but some other moms of boy Irish dancers and I were talking about different resources we have found for costumes-- pants, shirts, vests or waistcoats, and thought we'd start pooling and putting it in one space. Here's the link to the page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Moms-to-Reel-Boys/120371671360027?v=app_2309869772#!/pages/Moms-to-Reel-Boys/120371671360027

  • Learn and enhance your Irish dancing online -- Paul McAvinchey, 13:45:59 11/10/10 Wed [1]
    Hey there,

We are very happy to present a brand new website that will help you learn and enhance your Irish dancing online. It's called Diddlyi Learn (http://learn.diddlyi.com) and we would love to know what you think.

We spent a lot of time talking to 100s of dancers around the world over the past year. We found that many were looking for more support and many had no access to Irish dancing tuition at all.

Our answer is Diddlyi Learn - we gathered well known and highly qualified Dance Masters (from Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, TCRGs etc.) and will present their teachings through high quality videos and a specially built online support system each month.

Feedback so far has been wonderful - dancers say it will be really useful extra support for them, and obviously those who are not near a school are very excited to finally have access to some great teachers.

The service will be starting in January, but if you want an early bird price, we have a limited amount available by sending us your email address on the homepage.

Thanks all for helping us create this and promote the joy of Irish dancing around the world!

    Paul and the Diddlyi Team

GREAT NEWS in the world of Irish dancing! Sixteen men representing dozens of North American champions who traveled to Worlds to compete are on the cover of the September/October issue of Feis America magazine! The feature article, Reigning Men, by Bob Namar, is a great up close interview with World medalists from schools in the U.S. and Canada as well as a 'how to attract boy students' for teachers. In addition, an exclusive interview with Joel Hanna is also in this issue. You can see the cover on the Feis America Facebook fanpage or on our blog or webpage. Thanks for your support and congratulations to all the teachers and families who support male Irish dancers!

I wondered if any of you had any difficult moments with people commenting that your boy only got 1st because he was a boy? I have girls that have been dancing for a while (so I've been with this a few years) and have heard many moms make statements like that. And now I have a boy starting out. He got a first at his feis (so exciting) but I'm wondering how others dealt with any snide comments... there were several other boys in his competition so I was glad to see that. He thinks that is great! I don't want him to hear these things and get discouraged from dancing. Thanks.
