I've just come across a new talent website called UnearthTalent.com. Just wondering if anyone has heard of them? I've read through their site and they look pretty well credentialed, but thought I'd put it out there to anyone looking to get seen as you can upload videos of yourself and its only $30 a year. It looks a bit like starnow.com but a lot more slick and professional.
It says they're looking for talented people (models, dancers, singers, actors) for work in film, advertising and tv in any talent field, I can see a few dancers on there but no irish dancers. Maybe they're just what we need to get some great exposure for our fabulous male dancers?
Anyway go have a look just thought it might be of interest to anyone looking to get 'unearthed'.. haha

Hi everyone. I have a problem and need some advice:

I've been feeling pain in my shins some time now, and what I thought was Shin Splints was proven to be Stress Fractures. My orthopedist says if I would return to Irish dancing, even after my legs have healed, the stress fractures would return, and recommended I should stop all together.
The thing is, I don't know if I can do that- I'm having far too much fun while Irish Dancing, and honestly I can't bear the thought of not doing it any more (even though I've been dancing only for 2 months).

Can anyone please help? Advise? Respond?

Agree. My dancer was able to prevent them from returning by wearing good shoe inserts and doing physical therapy/conditioning/strengthening exercises. You DO have to take time off until you heal, though, or you will delay your recovery. (NT) -- a mom, 04:22:25 12/19/12 Wed

We are at a NEW Venue this year, North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. This is a great facility located in the heart of Naperville, named one of the "most desirable places to live in the central United States" by Money Magazine. Devasted and Need Everyone�s Help Please!!!!! Lost my Blackberry in Chicago at Nans. It had irreplaceable pictures, videos and recordings on it of my mom just before she passed away -- A Desperate ECR Mom, 08:18:18 07/10/12 Tue [1]

Whenever I�m sad and miss her, which is every single day, I watch the video of her telling a joke in the hospital and it makes me feel she�s still here with me and reminds me of how much love and laughter she brought to our lives. There�s also photos of her (and ones of the rest of my family) including her last Thanksgiving dinner, ones of her in the hospital, one of her smiling after getting some hopeful news� These precious photos and video have provided so much comfort that I am devasted thinking I may never see them again. There�s also a voice recording of her singing Happy Birthday, something she did with every child and grandchild on their birthday. I had also downloaded all the important saved voicemails from my landline. Plus there�s so many other precious pictures and photos of my dad, my children, my hubby, footage of my mom�s beautiful gardens, my son winning a cross country race, there�s just so much on that phone�..in addition to all the contact info for friends, family, doctors etc. and all the reminders for future family appointments. I know I should have downloaded all this but I was petrified I�d do something wrong and lose everything so had wanted to get professional assistance to do it properly.

The phone was lost Saturday July 7th between 5 pm and 6:45 pm either in the Sheraton Ballrooms A, B or C (most probably B as I was there most of the time but I was in A too) or just outside these 3 ballrooms. My blackberry is all black shiny plastic (I think it�s a newer version of the Bold), is bare without any protective cover and the battery was low so it most likely ran out that day. There may have been some residual moisture in the phone from exposure a few days earlier so if you�ve found one that doesn�t charge, (please forgive me for asking this) if you could kindly try removing the battery from the phone and then place it with the phone separate in dry rice for several hours or even a day and then try charging it. When it reboots it says �Rogers� first and then opens to a screen with a photo of my mom, short reddish/blonde hair and wearing glasses sitting on a bench seat.

I�m certain my phone was not stolen but that it accidentally may have fallen into a purse, dress bag or the like as I walked passed it or that I left it on a chair beside me as I watched the dancing and when I rushed off to see a dancer in another room, someone saw it sitting there and mistook it for their own. I hate to inconvenience anyone but the content of this phone is so precious and irreplaceable if you could please just take a moment to check shoe bags, costume bags, purses � anything you and your children or visiting relatives and friends may have had with you/them in the Sheraton Ballrooms that day. Please tell you�re children about this and if you could please ask them to tell their dance friends too and if you could please share it with all dance parents from your school. I�m hopeful that the more people that know then the better the chances of recovering it. For those who may suggest this, please be assured I tried calling it that night and many times since but it goes straight to voicemail, and that I left my contact details with everyone possible at the Sheraton and even at the Hyatt and I have a huge team of people praying to St. Anthony so I�m hopeful it�ll be found. Please feel free to join in the praying, the more the better. It�s my birthday this Friday the 13th and I had so hoped to listen to the blackberry recording of mom singing Happy Birthday.

I want to send a big thank you to Tim O�Hare for announcing my lost blackberry several times at the Saturday awards and the enthusiastic and swift responses from everyone, especially the little girl who immediately rushed over to tell Tim about a found blackberry. Unfortunately, that blackberry was not mine; although it looked very similar, it did not have my mom�s beautiful face in the opening screen. Perhaps the person who owns that blackberry mistakenly has mine.

A heartfelt thank you to all of you for taking the time to read this incredibly lengthy post and for any and all efforts you�re able to make to help me find my phone.

If he starts winning trophies be sure the trophies are displayed for his friends to see when they come over to your house. Nothing more impressive to a bunch of boys than lots of trophies. The Midwest Fleadh Cheoil is an Irish arts (music, dance, song, and language) competition held annually. It is the qualifying competition for the Comhaltas All Ireland Championships.

Dance competitions at the Fleadh include full and half set and ceili dances for all age groups.

This year, the Fleadh is being held in Chicago on April 13-15. The weekend will not only feature competitions, but social dancing, workshops, and performances as well!

I am a mother of three girls and I know the high cost of dancing in competitions. I needed a cheap and easy way to sell my Irish dancing dress each year and found all the other websites too confusing. I could not find any website that specialised in selling dresses that was cost effective. So I did what all good people do in recessionary times, they build their own!

I aim to keep the cost of the listing to an absolute minimum so that it is accessible to everyone.

Halloween Feis, 2011

The Mullane Healy Godley Academy of Irish Dance will be hosting the annual Halloween Feis, 2011 on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the McCook Athletic and Exposition Center, located in McCook, IL.

The feis is now open for entries, and entries will be accepted through October 20, 2011 via http://www.efeis.com. There is no entry cap on First Feis or Beginner 1 dancers, there is a cap of 800 entries for all Beginner 2 through Open Prizewinner dancers.

For Preliminary and Open Championship competitions there is a cap of 300 dancers. In preparation of the Oireachtas 2011 all Preliminary and Open Championship dancers will dance all three rounds and be adjudicated by a total of nine adjudicators.

In memory of the late Ann Richens, who will sadly be missed by so many in our region, we will be hosting a new annual competition at the Halloween Feis � The Ann Richen�s Memorial Treble Reel Cup. The competition will combine all feis treble reel competitions into ONE, which will be held during the lunch break, and adjudicated by a �guest� adjudicator. All dancers must wear a Halloween costume in order to partake, and the first place winner will be awarded a $1,000 US Savings Bond. Please note all treble reel proceeds will be donated in Ann Richen�s name to the American Cancer Society.

The host hotel is the Holiday Inn, Countryside. For the feis rate of $119.00 please call 708-354-4200 and quote Irish Dance.

Can anyone tell me if there are soft shoes that are made just for boys?

I'm just about to start my 4 and a half year old son in Irish dancing, and so I went to my local dancewear shop. They sold soft rutherford and capezio shoes. The shopgirl seemed unaware of whether boys could wear the shoes they old - she didn't know if there was a separate line of soft shoes just for boys.

I bought the rutherford shoes, because she said they were the only style they carried. Did I just buy GIRLS' soft shoes for my son? Are soft shoes meant for both genders?

Saline Celtic Festival�s 1st Annual Feis
A Celebration of Irish Dance and Song

Saturday, July 9, 2011
Registration will be open from May 1 - June 30, 2011 on efeis.
Registration will close early if the feis sells out.

The Feis is presented by the Saline Celtic Festival in Michigan. It is an Open Platform event (NAFC opted out), meaning that this Feis is open to everybody from any organization or no organization at all. It is not required to belong to a registered school, everyone is welcome. If you want to participate, please familiarise yourself with the rules on the Festival Events and the syllabus on efeis, then click on the entry portion of efeis.

Competitions will be held for all ages, from Tiny Toes ages 3, 4 and 5 to Senior Competition for 65 and up, and everything in between. Typical competitions of Reels, Light Jigs, Slip Jigs, Treble Jigs, Hornpipes, and Set dances, will be available to enter. Vocal competitions will be for songs in English and Irish Gaelic. Convienient pre-purchase of entry tickets for non competing family members and pre-purchase of T-shirts are available.

The dancing and singing competitions will be outdoors, riverside, under a tent, well ventilated and fanned. Early drop off will be available as well as free parking and free shuttle bus service. Numerous outstanding activities for families are held at the Festival. Bring your blankets and chairs, if you like, for lounging and enjoying the event.
