Subject: Boys should get smaller awards

than girls because there are less competitors in their competitions.

Please respond with reasons why this argument is not valid if you replace the above statement with: All competitions with few competitors (5 or less) should get (much) smaller awards than those with more competitors (more than 5).

I really can't even understand the logic behind this one.

How do we argue the point that you can't decide to give some comps big awards and some little depending on how many are entered? Is this discrimination when you know when setting the rules for awards that boys comps will have fewer numbers?

[> I think it is ridiculous. If organizers don't like small comp #, combine with girls.Wait till you hear the Mom's of girls whine. -- Get the cheese ready!, 11:03:14 08/18/10 Wed [1]

[> I would prefer that they just combine the boys with the girls. It is not fun for a boy to get ready for a competition and get there only to find out he is the only competitor. He would rather earn his award. -- Mom of ds, 18:36:31 08/18/10 Wed [1]

[> The post on the http://www.voy.com/60473/ board is one of the nastiest I've seen toward the boys. It's no wonder it's so hard to keep boys in Irish dance. This is the unspoken attitude they probably feel from many. -- makes me sad, 19:14:35 08/18/10 Wed [1]

[> [> I had to go over there and read it, I usually never read that board because it's so vicious, not surprising. Keep in mind that sort of negativity is probably just one poster. -- gs, 07:12:25 08/19/10 Thu [1]

[> [> My son does read the boards and he is totally disgusted with the venom being spewed there. I posted a reply today after he told me that people like that just make him want to try and work harder. I on the other hand want to say meaner things...LOL -- Irishmama, 22:16:08 08/19/10 Thu [1]

Trying to remember that I would always prefer to take the high road.
