Subject: Do you think it is better for a boy to be taught ID by a male TCRG or can a female TCRG do just as well?

[> I think what's most important is to have a tc who understands boys - whatever their gender. Boys have different strengths and weaknesses than girls and that needs to be addressed. -- the choreography has to be gender appropriate as well, 04:12:50 11/25/09 Wed [1]

[> I agree. I think it is more important to have some other boys to dance with. The style is different and it can be hard to learn that in a girls-only class -- Daniel's mom, 07:30:56 11/25/09 Wed [1]

[> [> It is nice but not necessary to have other boys to dance with - it certainly makes it more fun and creates healthy motivation, but a good teacher who recognizes the differences will address with the student -- regardless, 07:32:45 11/25/09 Wed [1]

[> Thanks - I guess I'm a little concerned he's in a very "girl" school (more) -- Curious, 08:27:50 11/25/09 Wed [1]

Thanks for the replies. In his school, there are only a couple of boys (they are older) and no male TCRGs. I can tell he feels awkward because there are no boys to hang out with. The girls are very sweet to him, but he did say the other day that he wished there were more boys that danced. Maybe it's more of a question of having other boys around rather than a male TCRG?

[> The other boys are key - my son switched to a school that has lots of boys. They really support each other and I don't feel he's standing alone while the girls are telling secrets in dance class! -- happy at other school, MUCH happier now!, 08:56:48 11/25/09 Wed [1]

[> Sounds like more boys would be good, but worth the ban? (more) -- OP, 17:07:58 11/26/09 Thu [1]

I am not sure we could get out of the ban because we are transferring to a school with more boys!

[> [> We've served a ban, and thought of it as just a mental (and financial) break from feising. Just focused on the dancing and restyling. It was a very positive time for us. -- Made a switch a couple years ago., 09:45:29 11/28/09 Sat [1]

[> My son has done extremely well. A male teacher would have been cool, but a female can teach just as well. More important than the teacher IMHO is that the boy has other males to hang with at feisianna. That is what makes it fun. For us, this has mainly been boys at other dance schools. -- pro female or male teacher, 14:40:39 11/28/09 Sat [1]

[> My son had a great teacher who taught him as a boy (different fro the girls) and to his strengths. He just felt so isolated without any other boys and finally left ID. I think he misses it -- and I KNOW I do!, 18:56:13 12/01/09 Tue [1]
