Author: just a mom of a dancer

In reply to: page down a bit 's message, "Whoa - big discussion on the GB board about how the boys 'have it so easy' ... http://www.voy.com/174296/" on 14:53:40 10/20/08 Mon

vowed not to get upset about this topic. I was way off the deep end and thinking back, I'm not sure how (or why) I got so out of control over it! Lessons learned, I now accept the fact that yes, there are less boys so not as much competition as far as numbers, but there are some pretty fantastic male dancers out there. The number of dancers in a comp shouldn't take away from any dancer's successes. I refuse to accept my ds is where he is because he's a boy. I've seen many other boy's he's danced with in past years still a level or two behind and many girls he's danced with right up there with him now. So when I attended a feis this summer and heard another feis dad sitting behind me telling another "newbie" parent that the boy doing the treble reel (not my son) would get "boy points" and then went on to explain what boy points were, I just ignored it...and was much happier at the end of the day rather than getting steamed about it. I'm not out to change anyone's opinion on this topic, just trying to enjoy my child's extracurricular activity.

[> I think if there are ever "boy points" in a champ comp, it is just a placement - not a top three as most kids are looking for. -- the boys that beat 30 kids, boys OR girls, are the ones that deserve to win, 03:47:45 10/22/08 Wed [1]
