I would do All American Pageant. The first time was great, and I had a good time, I just wish now, that I had gone with my own thoughts and ideas instead of looking at the outgoing queens, what they wore was great for them, and I have definitely learned that since then, and to always make sure of what a director means when they label a particular category (Ex: Dressy Sportswear), my only problem, I don't really like the crown they're using right now, but I would still go back anyway. Subject: Looking into producing a single-title, very glam pageant for "older" ladies and want your input....

What would you suggest as the minimum age? This would be a single title pageant; should it start at 40? 45? Something else? With the right criteria could someone near (or over) 60 compete fairly with someone 42? What time of year would be best? Venue would likely be in the DFW area, so it's hot in the summer, and there are so many pageants in the summer. Is that still best or would Spring or Fall be better? More questions to follow as the possibility for doing this in 2013 firms up.

Wow, this would take a book for all the input I have. 40 minimum. As long as there is an equalizer, like no swimsuit and regulated fitness wear, the physical won't be that far off. But once the younger ones start showing skin, they seem to win it all. This is a fabulous idea, and growing quickly. (I have brown hair, hazel eyes, and pale skin, even with a spray tan.) Every photo I have of myself in this color looks better than any other color I wear. But I'm worried judges will see my age and score me down for being age inapropriate.

I say go for what looks good on you, and what you feel comfortable in, I am a very dark skinned African American woman, and pinks looks good on me as well, and i'm 44, -- Go for it! We can be fit, but at that age,lets have some class. Please educate the judges- Real women,yet beautiful, fit women. Age should not matter.Hopefully, we will all be there one day. Woman of Achievement has an "Elite" over 40 division! I just went to their CA state prelim and one of the judges (who has a column in Forbes) is doing a write up re: how competitive the Elite (40+) div was! It was almost impossible to tell who would win - all talented, had great platform work and interviewed extremely well! They also give out cash to the top platform winners. And, NO, they do not put your age in the program book! Thank God! They came up through the ranks when pageantry was at its finest. Most of them did MAO, since that's almost all there was, and they are very skilled at it. I dont' think the 40 somethings are considered viable any more. There are a strong handful of older women who are dynamite, but it's too small for directors to give attention to. So, you have to compete with the 20's and 30's, and it's a rarity to win. Directors play a huge roll in helping choose, or at least influencing judges. I witnessed such a thing at a major pageant before the interviews were over. I saw a list of the top 5. The director rushed to grab it so no one saw it, but I did. Who should I tell? Who should I accuse? if I write it on a voy, people accuse me of sour grapes. So, most of us just shut up and move on. Subject: Just wanted to say congratulations to Dee Lane on her placement in the Florida America pageant this past weekend. This woman is 58 years old and is so inspiring to all of us. Florida is one of the toughest states and Dee placed as 3rd runner up. Absolutely amazing, authentic and beautiful woman!

The expectation of "looking 30 something" as a 50 something tells me there is something broken with the system. That is akin to saying a "30 something" needs to look like a 10 year old. Try as you may, that is not going to happen. How do older women break this cycle of insane expectations?
