At the moment, the discussion of the four remaining Weyrbrats turned over to flits.

"I absolutely adore them." Faini sighed. "They're dead useful, and are friendly, too."

"You only say that because you own one." Shadow whispered.

"What? Are you jealous of my Skyi?" Faini asked, giving a mocking smile. "Jealous that I have a gold and you don't?"

"No." he said, looking up at her with his red eyes. "Actually, I'm thankful you impressed her. At least the poor, silly creature got a Weyrbrat and doesn't have to grown up with one of the riders--"

"Hey!" Cara said, glaring defiantly. "My father's a rider!"

"That's not what I meant." Shadow calmly replied, turning to her. "If you'd let me finish, I was saying 'with one of the riders like my step-dad who thinks of them as selfish little vermon'. Many riders back at the old Weyr thought like that, and got some anyway."

"Oh." Cara said, instanly cooling. "Sorry."

"S'alright."

"Anyway, she's not just a poor silly creature. She's intelligent, and loving, and... here?" Faini stopped as the golden fire-lizard blinked out of between in front of her. Skyi crooned, and Faini gave her a peice of meat, which she nibbled happily.

Graythorn smiled. "It is kinda cute," he admitted.

"I wish I had one." Cara sighed. "You should get one too, Shadow. Maybe you'll change your opinion."

He just shrugged.

However, Faini wasn't reassured. "I'll show you. Many people like flits." As to prove her point, she walked strait up to the first person she saw-- Salty.

"Excuse me? Hi, I'm Faini. I wanted to know if you like fire lizards."

"Faini!" Cara cried, getting up. The two boys followed her.

Graythorn walked up to Salty. "Sorry. When she makes a point, she makes a point. you new 'round here? I'm Graythorn..."

"And I'm Faini..."

"I'm Cara..."

"And I'm Shadow. Korea's over there." he jerked his thumb in the other boy's direction.

""Oh, you don't know us that well, do you?" Cara asked. Her eyes sparkled mischeviously. "We're known around here as..."

"The Weyrbrats."

They all smiled at each other, delighting in the sound of their own name. After a second, though, Cara turned to Salty.

"So, what's your name? And where'd you come from? Wanna sit with us?"
