I'm surprised nobody is taking issue with this column. Why would you second guess Bonaventure's AD for taking a coach who had already won at three previous programs, including perennially difficult jobs in Cornell and Vanderbilt? Versus a guy with zero head coaching experience? You can't. Not to mention that Van Breda Kolff has done a pretty nice job so far. Last year, they went 17-13 and were 82 in the RPI. Not bad for a team that was very marginally talented and very thin up front. As I said before, there are a couple of MAAC teams with more talent that Bonaventure's up front. They probably have the weakest frontcourt in the entire Atlantic 10. Still Van Breda Kolff won last year, and he's doing a pretty good job again this year. Their RPI is almost identical. They've got some quality wins. Who is this columnist to think he is qualified to second-guess the choice of Van Breda Kolff? As I said before, I'd like to see Lanier coach that team against those opponents.
