Explanation from ncaa.org inside - in a nutshell, consider them an RPI for academics where 1000 is a perfect score. (from article) Simply put: (1) The APR is the real-time snapshot of every team's academic performance at a given time; (2) an APR score of 925 is what teams must meet to avoid contemporaneous penalties; and (3) teams below 925 will not be able to replace for one year the grants-in-aid of players who left as academic casualties during the previous academic year. -- PA Ram, 18:11:34 03/01/05 Tue
There's a thread below about players who are not coming back that mentions Tristan Martin as a GPA casualty. First, if we were overall below 925, we wouldn't be able to replace him and would feel the pinch by his poor academic performance. Second, actions like that help to drag down our overall numbers and reinforce the importance of not only recruiting great athletes, but also good people/students. Plus, our overall #'s are good in comparison with most schools but it would certainly be nice to not see us near the bottom of the PL rankings. Just my .02. (NT) -- PA Ram, 18:16:12 03/01/05 Tue
It's a percentage based on 4 digits (1000 being perfect). It measures if a financial aid student-athlete 1)stayed and 2) whether he was eligible. They assign a point for each of these variables over both semesters and then figure the percentage for the entire squad. 925 has been determined by the NCAA as equivalent to a 50% graduation rate if continued for 4 years and, thus, the break point for future scholarship penalties. we are 39th in country out of 328. The poor basketball report has nothing directly to do with Hill, since it looks at last year's performance. It does include the four guys who left Fordham without graduating which is why it is so low. The Basketball team was at 1000 after fall semester this year. Our target schools, Boston College and Notre Dame, were tied at 32. Beside Martin and DK, the guys on probation will also lower next year's score for the football squad.
