It is very difficult to have a student /athlete choose FU over a scholarship offer.. A close friend of mine is a PL Head Coach.. they target low income student/athletes, this way they aid is very similar to a scholly.. (and almost an equal playing field)...FU could play a solid OCC as well.. I hope FU goes to scholarship football...Why not field a better team, receive more exposure in A-10 and get a chance to play a 1-A each year.. Fortunately for us, he grew a few inches while at Fordham. Had he gotten an offer from a scholarship school (Villanova, Delaware, etc.) it’s doubtful he would have come to Fordham. In fact, one of the reasons Coach Clawson listed for accepting the Richmond job (which some on this board viewed as a lateral move) was the luxury of offering scholarships to prospects. If just having scholarships were the answer, there would be no losing teams, would there? College football is all about recruiting. Our aid package plus our reputation will bring most kids here. Will we lose a few? Sure. You'll lose kids even with scholarships. There are a lot of priorities (read facilities) that I would rather take care of first.
