Subject: Times have changed since student-athletes could take a couple of weeks off for riding trains and getting reporters drunk. San Francisco was so impressed with Gael football, St. Mary's dropped its program. Think Fordam will set aside an Ivy long enough to play an intersectional game?

I had advocated here for a long time that we should renew the St. Mary's rivalry. A trip to Moraga every other year would have resulted in the team getting some attention in other media markets, and would have been a recruiting tool too. Unfortunately St. Mary's disbanded its program. I still think an intersectional rival should be considered, but with St. Mary's gone, one does not leap out at me. All of our great intersectional rivals from the past are still playing big-time football. (NT)JoltinJoe07:25:28 11/27/04 Sat
