To friends and family of Rachel Helen Lehman

I’m writing to bring you up to date on the health of mom Lehman as you have indicated you would like to be included on her present well-being.

Some of you may not have known that mom, now 97, is on hospice, and living in an assisted living group home in Peoria, AZ. This because of an almost immediate loss of the ability to get around, and feed herself in the small manufactured home she lived in in Tucson. She also sustained Bell’s Palsy (face droop), in October which is affecting her vision, and she can’t see the face of the person right in front of her. A small sore on her neck which some of you saw back in November, has been identified as a solid mass, probably cancer, and appears to be invasive. It is getting larger and could be moving to other locations such as the brain or various arteries in that area. She is bleeding internally and externally from this sore and the problem of blood clots has been raised. To compound all of this, her heart appears to be getting weaker day by day.

The good thing to report, she is in good spirts, happy, and telling jokes. The only pains worth noting is occasional headaches, and she still likes to talk all day long. Her memory is getting a little weaker day to day, but she still will tell you her story, and probably tell you “she is really not even sick, not really.”

I wanted to let you know some of these issues she is having as both her doctor, and hospice nurse are not giving her very good odds within the next 30 to 90 days. If you were wanting to come by to see her, time is getting short.

If you need information on how to reach her, you can call me or better yet e-mail and I will give you that material. She still has her phone number but almost never picks up calls because she can’t see the phone to answer it and leaving a message will not work because she can’t work the controls on the phone. If you plan to visit, or call, remember that she is upbeat and feeling like life is moving on.

Thank you,

Shayne T Lehman
