Subject: Newell Swartz

It is with profound sorrow that I inform you of the passing of our Brother and former VSPA President Newell Swartz. Newell had been in the hospital for several weeks and made his eternal journey home last evening. He enlisted in the Air Force 1956 and spent 12 years in the Air Police. He was assigned to numerous locations, i.e., Forbes AFB, KS, with TDY's to England, Libya and Turkey. He met and married his wife, Maria, while assigned to Zaragoza, Spain. He was also assigned to the SAC Elite Guard at Offutt AFB, NE. He served in Vietnam at Phu Cat AB and Phan Rang AB. In 1968, he accepted an inter-service transfer to the Army. He ended his military career as a CW3 in 1976. He also retired as an Arizona Highway Patrol Sergeant in 2002. He held numerous positions with the AZ Highway Patrol, i.e., patrolman, criminal investigation squads in narcotics, organized crime, white collar crime, and motorcycle and prison gangs. He also served two years in Internal Affairs. Newell had a great heart and loved the VSPA. His service to our Association will always be remembered. Please pray for Maria and the children in this most difficult time. I will provide information about arrangements when received. Rest in Peace my Brother, you will certainly be missed.
