Each of the elected positions requires special qualifications. Some positions require "dual qualifications" For example, anyone running for VP must be capable and willing to step into the President's position, should the elected President be unable to perform his duties.

I believe we have been fortunate to have had some really great leaders, who sacrificed a lot, in order to devote time to the Association. Have there been disagreements or "unhappy campers?" Of course there has. In a 1200+ membership pool, it will always be impossible to please everyone. However, that is where the leaders have to "bite the bullet" and make the tough decisions that are in the best interests of the Association.
One comment said, "Who would be a disinterested verification team," in relation to elections. I am not as hung up on that as some may be. I believe that, for the most part, all of our Members are honest and this isn't an issue.
As we have seen in the past, it is hard enough to get someone to step up and even run for office. It takes a lot of time away from family and friends and is a thankless chore.
I am not in favor of announcing the raw number results. It is sufficient to just announce the winner. There is nothing to be gained by announcing raw numbers. It might even discourage guys from seeking office in following years.
I don't believe it makes any difference whether a person served 4 years or 40 years, if he possesses the requisite skills for the position he is seeking. I believe a person seeking the President or VP position must possess or be willing to learn the protocols for dealing with senior military leaders. Some senior officers can be a challenge. Some would prefer not to have the hassle of hosting us at our Reunions. Once someone screws it up, the message "don't host those VSPA guys," will travel like wildfire, to other Commanders.
