Subject: Re: Anti virus -- What I use for Anti-Virus, Malware & VPN

Bob,
Now and then I am asked what Anti Virus and Malware apps I use. This is my opinion, and my experiences since the Very early 1990s: Like Mr. Jones, I used what was available and flipped back and forth between the two biggies, Norton and McAfee. I liked both original market plans to confront anti-virus and malware, but then competition caused both to bloat into an 'everything for everybody' with what seemed and proved to me invitations for to things go wrong. Both were trying to solve every computer issue (except making coffee). You can recognize this fact when you try to uninstall McAfee--it's next to impossible to clear it completely from your computer Registration (doing so manually is a lengthy time-consuming process), and yes their friendly uninstall button wizzes quickly through what you think is actually happening. And McAfee and Norton love to bundle every piece of junk apps there are that love to plant cookies and mine your computer for everything sellable while using your computer to store junk on.

I finally switched to BitDefender with VPN. Easy installation. Does what it says it will do, gives you the options for blocking virtually everything (of course your computer wouldn't work ever again if you actually did that because interactive apps require permission for access), and it has been hassle and trouble free, for me. It has a single button for a very quick optimize and one for a rapid scan of critical/vulnerable executable applications on your computer. It works in the background, is reasonably a low Resource user, and I have yet to have anything penetrate their firewall (McAfee and Norton always seemed to be regularly warning me to use one of their gadgets to remove something that never should have made it to my computer.

There's another BIG Plus--BitDefender allows you to install on 5 of your devices without paying additional licenses. Five! That covers everything I have (Desktop, Laptop, 2 iPhones, iPad).

If interested, go to: https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/
then click on "Home (use)”. I subscribe to the $44 dollar annual option, which includes the 5 devices and VPN (really blocks malware, spam, pop ups, etc.).

Check it out, or not. Don Poss
