Judgment Day’s Broken Man
Memorial Day, 2022

Memorial Day . . . he trod the flight line
just before dawn. Sleep oft denied in his
theater of war, where now-and-then
horror was guaranteed.

Once tread he down war’s path so bold,
dark dreams did taunt and scold his soul.
A broken man can fall no farther,
not so for me, thought he.

Explosive lights flashed, mere seconds delay,
till thunder cracked the night and held morn
at bay, as shrapnel drummed the line.

Heaven’s veil irised and snatched his
spirit before he fell to ground. Alas . . .
alas, fell the broken man on this his
judgment day.
