MEMORIAL DAY
(c) 2025, Don Poss, SAR

Honor the fallen warriors
Gone, these Centuries
Gone, these Generations
Gone with those who followed.

Remember the Names and
Deeds of brothers Fallen,
Least they fade to dust that
Lesser men of war would trample.

Remember there fell one million
and more you never knew, who
fulfilled scripture’s truth,
“There is no greater love than to
Lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

More than in Duty,
They lay down their lives,
In valorous Deeds,
Or were taken suddenly, and
Died in service to country to keep us free.

In love of country from her birth.
In love of what she became.
In love of America’s cherished freedoms,
They swore an oath and found her
Worthy of self-sacrifice.

Oh America . . .
Remember our Fallen,
Who gave the greatest love of liberty,
Upon whom we dwell with melancholy-joy
This Memorial Day.

And know without them, we would be enslaved,
and bound in darkness to the loveless-whims of
a Cruel and oppressive ruler.
