Subject: Happy Birthday Kathy

July 13, 2025
Kathy’s Birthday

Today is my beautiful wife Kathy’s birthday. I like to tease her that I’m only three years older than her and she’s catching up— that lasts until October when she gleefully points out I’m “really” four years older than her. Anyway, I bought her the most unromantic birthday present in 57 years of marriage today… and it was delivered right on time. I carried it over to her where she was setting near the lovely tulips our son and sent her, and said, “Well . . . aha . . . I think I bought you the most unromantic gift for your birthday ever (big pause).” Kathy asked, “You didn’t get me a drill did you?”
“No baby, I’m not that dumb… I bought you a ‘Bug Zapper’.” I was ready to run when she got up and gave me a big hug and kiss and said that for once I had picked up on a clue she had dropped.
Kathy loves to read and often sets in the backyard on a yard-swing enjoying the yard; hummingbirds, lizards sunning on the garden wall, the shrubs and trees, and the smell of wood burning from California fires raging here and there which draws the no-see’em bugs that may have flown in from Hawaii to graze on Kathy's left arm (she’s also a mosquito magnate). You don’t feel the critters bite, but they soon present a red itchy swell to get your attention— hence— Happy Birthday Sweetheart! And Happy Bug Zapper!
