Subject: NEW YORK STATE VETERANS WITH 100% DISABILITIES

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIVE IN NEW YORK STATE: New York veterans with a 100 percent service-connected disability will be fully exempted from paying property taxes, according to a new bill signed into law this week by Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul.

Overview
There are three different property tax exemptions available to Veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Alternative Veterans’ Exemption
Cold War Veterans’ Exemption
Eligible Funds Exemption
The exemption applies to county, city, town, and village taxes. Exemptions may apply to school district taxes.

Obtaining a veterans exemption is not automatic – If you're an eligible veteran, you must submit the initial exemption application form to your assessor. The deadline in most communities is March 1—please confirm the date with your assessor.
