Subject: I liked the episode, but....

Don't get me wrong. I love Scully. She's my hero. But why did the writers even bother having her in the first half of the episode? She just shadowed Mulder, added nothing to the case, and seemed very superfluous.

After Mulder questioned the woman in jail, Scully tells him he was out of line and irresponsible. Excuse me, but wasn't she standing right there? Couldn't/shouldn't she have said something then instead of waiting until they were leaving?

And was Mulder being even more obtuse than normal?

Still, Scully redeemed herself in my eyes in the second half. When she told Mulder about his mother, I gasped and said, "Whoa! Didn't see that coming!" And the look on her face when Mulder asked her to perform the autopsy. Hey, I wouldn't want to autopsy Teena Mulder either. Ewwwww!

Speaking of Mrs. Mulder, how like her to commit suicide, one of the most selfish acts a person can perform. I will be disappointed if it turns out she was murdered.

I'm not a big DD fan, but I thought he did a terrific job in this one.

krh, who has no comments on the plot because she is so confused!
