Linda, as regards the first bust, Brian actually did do it. He was guilty of smoking hash, as I was, as just about every hippie in England since 1964 was. He was made an example of, to show the "youth of Britain" where they were making a mistake, thats all. It really was just part of the price of fame, getting busted. Prior to the Stones' collective busts, it was possible to walk the streets of England openly puffing off a giant joint. I can personally attest to that. Just prior to Brians bust, my downstairs neighbor, Danny, would come back from scoring off the Jamaicans in Brixton carrying a large brick of hash in his hands, visible to all. It was no big deal until the stiffs in suits decided to clean up the country, then paranoia ran rampant. Searches could, and were, be conducted right on any street at any time. Most of us were unimportant enough, or protected by Chief Det Inspector Lynch, to be able to carry on, but famous people were brought up as examples. Problem for Brian was that his insecurities and paranoias took over after his experience, and although he continued to smoke the stuff, it became a freak show for him. He turned more to prescription pills such as the Mandies provided by the lovely Amanda, and booze. He still occasionally dropped acid, but it produced a couple bad trips so he stopped. He began to accept that Anita had been a bad influence, which was a good thing. But basically, yes, Brian was guilty of smoking hash when he had the first bust.
