By late 1965 Brian had a lot going for him despite the fact Mick and Keith were writing (stealing/taking credit) all of the songs. He had met Anita (further pissing off Mick and Keith... god, they were complete assholes to Brian) was still a valuable member to the one of the most popular bands in the world. He was voted the "best looking" rock n roll star in 1965 (adding another insult to Mick & Keith) and hitting his peak when it came to utilizing his musical talents playing all sorts of instruments. Even ALO said that Brian's contributions to Aftermath made the album. A total difference maker in other words.

1966 continued the momentum for Brian and he was asked by the end of the year to create the musical soundtrack to Anita's movie. If he couldn't get own music on a Stones album then there were still other ways to get his music across to the public. However, other things were happening within the Stones that would eventually help lead to Brian leaving/getting fired from the band. ABCKO took over from ALO the business/management side of things and Eric Easton was fired altogether. From the beginning, Alan Klein never saw the importance of Brian's contributions and with Mick/Keith firmly on his side (for a couple of years anyway)led to Brian being pushed even further in the background. As Bill states in his book there was a "non-written" rule regarding Brian and his role within the Stones...stating that no matter how much he added to a song or album he was to never get the recognition he deserved.

Despite all of this, Brian's relationship with Anita helped keep things together for a short while anyway. Even Keith (1966 early 1967) tried to mend their friendship during this period. The question lies was he trying to be friends with Brian or was he doing this just so he could be closer to Anita? We all know what happens in the end... Keith becomes the backstabber and takes the one "true love" of Brian's life. That's not my quote that is from Brian's own dad. I have posted numerous times that what Keith did to Brian was despicable. First of all in my book, friends do not do that to one another. No matter the feelings I might have for another woman if she was going out with my "friend" then I would never touch her. Period and end of story. So much for Keith claiming that Brian and him were good friends and vice-versa. I believe Keith was trying all along to snake Anita away from Brian and he was biding his time just like Mick and Keith were biding their time to get rid of Brian from the group. By 1967, all of this happened to Brian and he was never the same. He should have said to Keith and everyone else... F*** off I am out of here!! I quit the group. Biggest mistake Brian ever made in my opinion is that he chose to stay. What did Mick and Keith do? They tell Anita, after Keith has taken her away, to lie to Brian (claiming she will go back to Brian after the tour) so that he will go on tour in March/April 1967!! Another lie and Brian was used again. Thanks but no thanks. Now Brian lost his girl, his band and, what he thought was his "best friend" all in a matter of 2 month's. He was a total out cast in his own band and yet, somehow didn't realize this... he stayed.

Soon after the tour (a few weeks maybe) Brian got busted. The slippery slope was now complete and Brian soon became a monster drug user/boozer to mask all of his pain/problems. All thanks to Mick and Keith.

More to come later...

George
