Subject: First review of the summer - let's get cracking!

60th Annual Tony Awards: A little short, and I didn't really get the "Soul Patrol" reference (as I've said before, I'm pretty much a pop culture 'tard) There could have been, I feel, a little more filler in this piece, maybe some jokes about each of the plays that was nominated before the winner was revealed. Still, it was neat seeing Taylor Hicks get shot. Three minutes of fame down, twelve to go...

Monologue: I really want to thank Mark and Prateek for giving this piece a look-over before the update. It was greatly appreciated. Sorry if it was a little too long; I tried to trim as much unnecessary material as I could while still making it flow well. I don't really like to use characters in sketches as a mouthpiece for my own viewpoints, but Stephen seemed like the perfect choice to convey my contempt for cliche comedy (wow, alliteration)

Captain Lipstick: Great premise, but again, it was too short. I think there could have been much more added to the piece: clips of Captain Lipstick working in his secret identity, a description of his "Transformation" into hero mode, some bits of the battle between him and Trans Man, stuff like that. Hopefully, we'll see the return of this strange new hero in the future...

Ned and the Doctor: Didn't really appeal to me that much as I've seen the "surgeon with shaky hands" bit done before, but it did have some saving graces. The dialogue was pretty good, and the bits with the coffee and Dr. CRowley showing Ned examples of his past work were rather funny.

Now Hiring: Meteorologist: Killer piece. Colbert is the perfect choice for such an insane character. I enjoyed the banter between Parker and Kirkwood, and Parker had some especially crazy lines. The end part of their encounter regarding the unemployment agency was very funny. I would have been amazed if during Kirkwood's interview with Sally, a hurricane actually did appear.

Beautiful Day: I would so have loved to see this acted out. It was absolutely hilarious, especially for having such a minimum amount of dialogue.

Summer Public Service Announcement: The dialogue was a little hard to follow at points, and I didn't really find the subject matter that funny. Sorry. Though I did like seeing the conflict erupt between Colbert and Steve Carell (twice that's happened so far).

Nancy Drew: Criminal Investigator: I've never read Nancy Drew, and I'm not really a fan of detective dramas, so this didn't appeal to me that much. Plus, the dialogue seemed really unnatural and somewhat forced, or was that intentional?

Today on Dr. Phil: The doctor is in... again. I didn't really find Phil that funny, but I thought the dialogue between Jesus and God was great. Especially loved the "emotional" breakthrough between the Father and the Son at the end; not even a Hummel figurine could be that hilariously sappy.

The Basement: This didn't really fly with me, again, because I've seen sketches where one flashback leads into another done before. Sorry.

Well, I'd say we had a pretty good show to kick off the season. I bet Stephen would be proud of us. Have a good day, all, and see you for the next episode.
