Subject: A review of the Matt Dillon episode? Brilliant!
In reply to: Patrick 's message, "Re: REVIEWS: Matt Dillon 03/11/06" on 12:53:13 03/13/06 Mon

Sorry, just trying to keep with the theme. On the subject, I really want to thank Jason, Mark and Prateek for all their help in creating the ad parodies. They were wonderful.

Now that that's out of the way, let's review!

The Situation with Tucker Carlson: I was a little hesitant to read this when I saw it would feature Tom Cruise and Bobby Brown, fearing it would just be filled with cliched exaggerations of the two. And much to my dismay, it was. I could not read this completely through, for to do so would make baby Jesus weep. I don't know how many times I've said this, but I feel I must once more: the celebrity parodies have become stale. Especially when they're drawing on behavior exhibitied months or years ago to parody.

Monologue: I thought the bits about name confusion were okay, but there were a few down moments. For example, the Fran Tarkenton reference was too obscure. And Kevin Dillon's catchphrase from the movie seemed dated. He could have said something a little more relevant to his brother, like, "Don't flub this like you did the nomination!" Or something like that.

Drive-Thru Bank Robbery: I've heard this idea tossed around before, but this was the first time I've ever seen it executed. It was done quite nicely - with great dialogue between the robber and the teller and increasingly mounting difficulties keeping the foolish felon from achieving his goal. I laughed hardest when I got to the part about the stick up note that had "pretty please with sugar on top." That is priceless.

Later on with Bobby Hudson: The premise was a little repetitive, but still handled rather well. Hudson's absurd ramblings about his various accidents were very enjoyable to read, though the ending was predictable. I've got to know, though - is Bobby Hudson based on a real person?

The Drunken News with Barry Dunbar - Barry's back, and this time his broadcast won't be interrupted by a pompous football player. Another good one filled with bizarre drunken banter and hilarious commentary. Plus, I liked the revelation that the show is all just a hallucination of theirs.

His Name is Roy: I'm not a fan of "My Name is Earl," so this parody piece didn't really appeal to me. Nice try with the twist in the plot, though.

The Barroom: I LOVE absurd pieces like this. The dialogue between Matt and the weird guy was incredible - there were so many hilarious comments. But is "asthmologist" a real word?

Well, that's another review from me down the drain. I'll definitely have a full sketch in for the next episode, promise.
