Subject: It's a Super-Freaky Review, bitch! (god, that was a horrible Rick James)

Here we go, a review of a great show featuring the (currently) funniest man in television:

Bush News - so-so. The first paragraph was amusing, I liked the use of a media parallel to describe the topic of his announcement. His announcement that he'll send troops after the hurricanes was great, not to mention his resentment over being beaten up by a guy named Charley, and his decision to name the next storm Kerry. "Weather of mass destruction" was a great line. However, the whole Mittens the Kitten and "Bush shouldn't be up past 11" play into an aspect of Bush parodying that I find rather stale, and that is trying to portray him as childish in mental frame and behavior. Of course, that's just my opinion. Other than that, it was cool.

Monologue: Oh goody, we're making fun of Moby. Slamming the singer was a good start, but I didn't appreciate it that much, probably because I don't know who David LaChappelle is and I've never seen "Undercover Brother". Also, Dave's retort to Kenan was less than inspired and should have been more clever.

"Nice Ass" Boxers: This was good, very good. It had a clever premise, hilarious consumer commentary, and a finishing tagline that played into racial stereotypes. A fine piece of work.

Montel: Much better than any Oprah parody. Montel's less-than-subtle pot use and the ever-increasing gifts that will not help Belle and her condition are great. And the build-up leads to a killer response when Jeremy actually accepts the gifts and abandons his sick mama. This was sick, and I loved it.

Celebrity Poker Showdown: Loved it, I already listed it as one of the best of the summer. Mark gave me a chance to see it before it was put up here, and I found it very enjoyable. I got to see how successfully he satirizes the candidates, plus a few good slams at Kobe Bryant added to the amusement. Mark Hulbert's frustrations put this sketch over the top, as well as Kerry's winning hand, "I have three purple hearts!" Though, personally, are you sure he didn't intentionally cut himself with the cards to earn those purple hearts?

Cortatrim: I really regret the fact that I could not visually watch this sketch. The majority of the dialogue lacks humor, with the exception of Fat Man 3 and 4, but it has a great payoff that would be great to see on TV.

Just A Nutter Convention: Another impressive bit. Jeff Foxworthy-style "You might be a..." jokes never go out of fashion, and his over-the-top statements and policies are kick-ass. I really enjoyed seeing what happened to dissenters in the crowd.

Honesty: It was impressive, the attack comments were harsh and humorous, and the disclaimer at the end wrapped it up nicely. PLENTY OF BOOTY FOR YOU, JACK!

Remembering Rick James: A gentle, funny tribute to the passing of this fine artist. Nice touch, Mark.

Let's End the Summer with a Bang: When I saw the season-ending sketch for the official show, which had the cast burst into sappy summer-related songs, I gagged. Prateek remedied this by having Dave lay down effective rhymes, and touched on the crime of wearing down Darrell Hammond's significance in the show. Good touch bringing back Jim Breuer.

Prateek, your words were heeded. The Dave Chappelle show ended SNY's summer run with a huge bootyliscious bang thanks to the fine writers who give this show life. Catch you all for the fall premire, I've got five different sketch topics in development, and with luck I'll have at least one of them ready for October. Peace out, and God bless.
