I thought I would do some reviews in hopes of getting some more activity on these boards. The catch - I only review sketches by those who have posted reviews.

JPIIIs Maronga Baby Food

Gross. Out. Reminds me of some sny commercial parody I read of some disgusting KFC product. It’s pretty creative in it’s grodiness. It’s written well. The length of the commercial is perfect. My favorite part was the list at the end. Dung Mite Applesauce. No fat to be trimmed. My favorite snl ads are usually satirizing advertising devices or targetting something specific. This is just gross, but it is what it is.

JPIIIs The Flag

The premise of over zealous patriotism and flag worship is kind of hohum, but I figured JPIII would put a new spin on it. I like how they both salute. And then “No. I don’t think you know. I actually use it as a bedsheet.” Great execution here. The comic premise is introduced. “In God We Trust.” Salutes flag again. Funny. “freedomy smell” haha “stars and bars rubbing against my junk” this is great dialogue, colorful but not overwritten. I can’t think of a better choice of words here. Parnell would nail this. She “saluted seven times” “side entry missionary sex with Old Glory beneath us”

Then the sketch breaks into the ROTC thing, but I think it totally works. It’s hard to explain why and you know it’s all just opinion. But this talk of ROTC as if it’s the navy seals just offsets the premise so well.

The sketch is lightning fast. The dialogue is snappy. It’s just about as good as it’s gonna get. I like the one line ending. This is how I like my sketch and how I think a premise sketch like this should be written. I really don’t have anything to add. Except that you might want to throw in a line about a “pole.” “Let’s just say no pole was needed.” Something like that. I laughed out loud reading this sketch. I think overall - execution, hilariousness, ending, concept, etc - this is easily one of your best. What does everybody else think?

Hillary’s Enemies of the FCC Convention

Timely premise. Has a lot of potential for an snl parody type sketch. I think a lot of the humor would come from the impressions. It could use a comic premise. Just showing Janet around to all the FCC targets and having them talk doesn’t really bring the laughs. Having the various targets tell little jokes like “Well, if it isn't the little bitch that caused the big hubbub. Or should I say, hubboob?” or “Unless you want me to put a clear channel through your head, asshole, get out before you kill someone” is where the humor lies in this sketch so there just needs to be more of it. Just not enough jokes. Underwritten. Me personally, one liners like this are not enough for a sketch. There are plenty of snl examples that you could draw inspiration where they have a party or get together and parody lots of celebrities. Try to think of a comic premise to drive the sketch and exaggerate what’s funny about these famous personalities in creative and comical ways. The Bubba Sponge – not sure what you were going for here, but a guy in a sponge costume could be funny.
