I go to the AA route finder thing, type in my postcode, typ in the postcode of where I want to go, get it all up on screen, complete with map, print it out, read it through a couple of times, make a handwritten note of the main roads to attach to the complete list of instructions, read it through again the night before travelling and then give it to David to hold whilst I'm driving, or if he is driving, I will have it stuffed into my pocket or something. We have travelled about 250 miles doing it by this method, merely taking the wrong turn off a roundabout, realising when we found we had actually driving into a deadend road, driving back out and picking up the proper junction and got to where we were going with an absolute minimum of checking the directions. If I'm driving I will occasionally ask David to remind me of the road I want, and he will check my handwritten notes, and we drive on. I find this fairly foolproof, but if David is driving I do have to tell him every time we are going to change roads or go in a different direction
