  Ok I am going to be out of town most of this week so I thought I would post some comments and questions about Boomerang 2. Your homework assignment is to watch boomerang 2 LOL! There was a lot in this episode I had forgotten about! I must have blocked Mic memories also LOL!
  
  1. Did you like this episode?
  2. What do you think about the "ferry scene" above? Do you think Mac was out of line or were you thinking it's about time one of them said something!
  3. Do you think Harm meant no to Mac or simply a not yet?
  4. How do you think Mac took his answer did she see it as a complete rejection of the idea of a relationship or did she see it as a wait sign?
  5. Why do you think Mac agreed to take the ring from Mic?
  6. Why do you think Mac placed the ring on her right hand and made a point of noting this to Harm and the Admiral?
  7.The admiral tells Harm never look back but he does, do you think he was shocked to see Mic and Mac together?
  8. Do you think this was a ploy to make Harm jealous or do you think she really cared for Mic?
  9.If Mac and Harm were together in this episode, would everyone have stopped watching or would they have continued to watch JAG?
  10. What did you think about Bud and Harm's conversation about Mac and Mic. When Harm tells Bud to go to dinner with Mac "Better you than Brumby"? This is really the only time I can remember anyone teasing Harm about his relationship with Mac.
  
  I also want to know what is wrong with Bud in this episode why can't he run?
  
  I must say that I really didn't care for this episode but that ferry scene sure was interesting! I guess that is the first clear shipper scene.I didn't care for the way it made Mac look she was all interested in coming to Australia to see Mic and then she makes a play for Harm and then goes running back to Mic. It made her look like she would settle for anyone who would have her and I don't think that was the intention of the character of Mac.

  • In Mac's mind, she was rejected by Harm. There was no "them" she offered, he rejected (in her mind) and that was that. She also said NO to Mic, but of course Mic being Mic refused to take NO for an answer, and I think the fact that Mac was hurting from the perceived rejection, she maybe didn't want Mic to feel the same hurt & rejection. I wish she would've been more forceful with her NO, but again in HER mind Harm said no, & that was that. She offered, he was the one she wanted, he said no (not yet) & again I would've also perceived it a rejection & why not then move forward? The classic miscommunication LOL!   • I loved this episode because Mac decided to let Harm know she was tired of dancing to his timetable and she pushed the envelope to try to figure out where they stood. She demonstrated there were others more than willing to step up to the plate if Harm would not. Harm's other relationships let him keep them at arms length. Mac was not that type.     • I disagree that it was a jealousy ploy....Mac at this time IMHO honestly felt rejected by Harm & that he didn't & wouldn't want her any other way other than a friend. Remember at this time Harm had been dating Renee, & Mac laid it out & in her mind got totally rejected. I do agree that Mac never thought it would amount too much, until Mic made his grand entrance in front of all her friends. Then I think she felt some pressure, & I think also lost a little of herself in the process. But being through the hurt that she had just been through, I also think she didn't want Mic to feel the same hurt, I just wish she would've been more forceful with her NO & wouldn't of let him stick the ring on her right hand.         • Sorry Jubbey Buddy, but I disagree. At that point Mac was done with Harm. Harm turned her down and she accepted it. Also what people forget is that Harm had a date lined up with Renee back home. Harm saying in Lifeline for her to "wait as long as it takes" is very telling that he only wanted Mac after he was done sowing his oats and had other women out of his system.   Hey I could not find a clip for boomerang but I did find this collection of videos. It does have some scenes from Boomerang if you click around on the bottom on the red arrow and then on the pop up thingy (I believe that is the technical term! LOL!) you will find more videos.

  I saw some coverage of the fires in Florida this last week. A woman who was a Marine during Vietnam lost her home. She only had a few minutes to get out. She grabbed a few clothes, and her Marine Corp Sword. Beyond my heart going out to her, it made me wonder, did Mac have a sword, and why didn't she wear it with her Mess Dress?

  • I meant to reply sooner, its a great question! I know my mom's friend whose husband was a Marine has his sword mounted, and I've always wondered if a female officer would also carry a sword. We only saw Mac in her dress blues on a few occasions, & I can't recall any in which she had a sword.   • Department of Navy regs. do not require Navy officers to have swords...it's optional, however, the Marine Corps Officer is required to have one as part of their dress uniform.   If you did not get to see it there is a nice picture of Catherine Bell in the newest tv guide and a short article about Army Wives and also a picture of the female cast. The Lifetime channel has been promoting this show like crazy! You know I didn't think I would like the show when it first began, and only watched it because of Catherine Bell. I do like the show and hope it does well when it returns.I need to see the finale from last season again I don't remember anything other than them all being in the bar with someone with an explosive... I think Harm had worse luck than Mac because at least Mac had the control to leave her relationships when they weren't working out. The only one who left Mac was Mic. Eddie a drunk, Chris a criminal, blackmailer, abuser, John a CO taking advantage of his mentorship, Dalton undervalued Mac's abilities, stole from her, treated her like an underling, Mic tried to force her to love him, Clay used her survivor guilt against her. Harm on the other had Annie's son lie to her and did what he thought was best for her child, didn't include Jordan in on a decision that would effect them both. I didn't get the Bobby thing at all and have a feeling he did the leaving, and Renee was a stand in for Mac.Those other women that showed interest in him he didn't return the interest (the artist, and the lawyer) and Catherine Gale was a ready-made family.   • I'll bite. Webb was survivor guilt. Mac didn't get tortured, he did. Webb lied, was too secretive and was absent a lot. He wasn't interested in Mac's needs only his own. I didn't see the laughter or fun like she had with Mic. Webb deserved the slap. He endangered Mac's life and made her grieve his death. Mic was doing his job just as Mac was when she prosecuted her ex-lover John Farrow. Mic was new to JAG and he didn't know Mac that well. Later he lost his job rather than prosecute friends. Webb hurt Mac more. Mic just made Mac face up to the truth. She never really loved him enough to put him first.. Harm was her best friend and was who she chose to turn to when things went wrong.   When i first watched P&P with Keira Knightly, it reminded me so much of Harm and Mac.
  
  Darcy is so much like Harm. Neither knows how to convey to the woman they love that they love them. Both like to be in the company of their woman. They like to do things with them.
  
  One thing that was mentioned in this movie was there was three types of women.
  
  first type was more than just beautiful, they were handsome.
  Carolyn Bingley went into detail as to what that was. It wasn't just beauty, but it included how they carried themselves, the way they talk and the way they moved. Also they had to be accomplished. They were elegant.
  
  the second type I assume was who might be physically beautiful, but didn't carry herself well and weren't accomplish, they might act a little silly.
  
  the third type were just plain silly.
  
  
  The challenge here is how do the women of JAG fill these three catergories.
  
  Mac obviously the first type. She was beautiful, carried herself well and was very accomplish with her language skills, leadership skills, and the way she moved. She was quite elegant.
  
  Question is where do the others fit in?
  
  Harriet, Carolyn Imes, Meg Austin, Caitlin Pike, Jordan, Annie, Renee, Sydney Walden, Meredyth, Bobbie, and finally Skates.
  
  If I miss any, feel free to add them into the list. I don't think any of the others fit the profile of an elegant female except for Mac. Though I think Jordan would come close to fitting the bill.

  Ok you knew sooner or later we would have this discussion LOL! Let's talk about Mic and Mac. I had a very hard time when watching Mic and Mac from his line of "your company doesn't have to be sober does it?" up until the time he leaves Mac standing in the airport.
  Somewhere along the way in season 5 and 6 we lose the girl we know of as the kick ass Marine and she is almost a shadow of her former self.
  Beginning in Boomerang where Mac hops on a plane to Australia to see Mic, then makes a play for Harm and then after his rejection is seen cozied up with Mic??
  Then she is expected to drop everything and become his date at some dance where he just shows up
  Then she is expected to be his "trophy wife" at some business dinner.
  Then the double date of Mic and Mac and Harm and Renee where it's a joke except for the looks between Mac and Harm.
  Then there is the episode and I don't recall the name where there is this big discussion about her wearing his ring on the right hand or the left hand.(I so wanted her to take off that ring and hand it back to him!)
  Then in "Lifeline" we are at Mac and Mic's engagement party but Mac is on the Admiral's front porch kissing on Harm.
  Then Mic leaves Mac standing in the airport like some fool and she gets on the phone with Harm crying. This is where we get all the "come to me you know the reason" from Harm and again Mac is left standing in the rain. What's a girl to do??! LOL!
  SO I want to know what you all think about Mac and Mic did this couple make you uncomfortable? I can't explain it but I always felt like they were just on the verge of him being abusive towards her.
  I kept waiting for her to stand up to him but she never did.

  • Oh yeah I did see signs of Mic being abusive- maybe not physically- I see Mac taking Mic down in a heartbeat. As for emotional- this poor girl had her fair share of the abuse from her father to Chris. I think Mic was not a good guy-I am sorry that is some say he was. I feel like we would have seen Mic lose his temper alot. But again if he even tried to strike her, he would have ended up on his 6 many times. But yeah I didnt like the pairing of Mic and Mac.   • Mic reminded me of Charlie Brown and the football. He would never achieve the goal but he would faithfully try. My Mic physically abusive to Mac? Never, he loved her. She is the one that slapped him (totally uncharacteristic for her IMHO). I liked Mic if only that he was good for Mac's ego. I didn't think he really stood a chance with her but he did make her laugh, he loved to go up against her in court as it made him a better lawyer and I loved that he got Harm's goat (unfortunately not enough to get him to do something about it until the engagement party). Don't forget, it was Mac that went to Mic after Singer planted the mishap report and made that telephone call when she was posing as a Wiccan. Was she leading him on? I remember Mac's case, thinking there is no way a Senior officer should be handling such a thing, & I remember Mic's comments on the matter & how I wished Mac would've called him on his unprofessional behaviour towards a Senior officer (Mac outranked him & Mic was being smarmy as usual), but nothing stands out either quote-wise or scene wise....I don't envy you here kiddo, S5 eps weren't the best.     • Thanks Jennifer! Some weeks are shall we say more 'challenging' than others. We often bemoan the fact that Mac gets the short end of the stick. Thinking more about it, it just would not do, to have Mac shine too much in a military setting and therefore upstage the 'men'. So maybe TPTB in some instances had it right. Woman are far from being treated equally in the military. This in no way excuses the fact that many scenarios went way over that. (Her not divorcing Chris, her being compared to a lap dancer (what professor would say such a thing!), and the devaluing of her courtroom skills most of the time when Harm was in the picture). IMHO!     • I have to agree with Jennifer here this episode and the one where she defends the bulldog I kept thinking they have got to be kidding me! There is no way that she should have been even considered for this case. It also seems to me that season 5 had an unusual amount of crap that Mac was thrown. Not crap as in a tough life but crap as in a sorry storyline for a much more deserving character. A storyline where she goes through a tough time and we see her stronger for it , is ok but when the case is an absolute joke I don't appreciate it.   • i think the sexual inequality was on jag but not the real military. i once asked my son about women training in the navy. his answer was'Mom there are no women, just sailors" . more and more the modern military has sexual equality. Army Wives does a better job of showing this. Having a woman (a black woman) as second highest ranking officer on a military post. the real military led the rest of us in racial and sexual equality.     • I have to say I totally agree with you Linda. I don't think TPTB had it right at all. It was very obviously done IMHO by TPTB (etc.) throughout all 9 years that Mac was never to be considered equal. It was very evident in many episodes that they had to show Mac as not quite measuring up whether it was against Harm, in AJ's eyes and in later years against Bud and Sturgis. TPTB talked out of both sides of their mouth, the more popular Mac got the more crap they had to load on her. JAG was initially about a ace pilot forced to become a JAG lawyer where of course he had to be top gun. When CB entered the picture as Mac a supposedly equal colleague I think TPTB weren't prepared that Mac would be not only be so credible but she would become exceedingly popular.   • I'll bite on this one...LOL. I think AJ did sense a potential problem with Harm hence AJ letting Harm know point blank that Mac was in charge. I don't think AJ was giving Harm a chance to second guess his order, but to let him know up front that Mac was in charge and expected him to act accordingly. Harm always steamrolled over others in charge and did what he wanted. He still tried it in Panama that's why Mac had to remind him. I think that was one of Harm's biggest faults, he wasn't always morally and politically correct in his decisions or actions. He was very quick to point out others shortcomings and try to push that he knew best and his way was the best way. Which in many many cases was not true.       • Oh Jubellant, in my perfect world your depiction was exactly how I would have liked it to be, but alas it never worked that way for Mac on the show. AJ knew how Harm was, but he handled Harm with kid gloves and gave in to him way too much. It would have been nice over the years to see AJ give Mac the extra support and backing. That's one of the reasons I think Cresswell respected Mac more. Cresswell backed her, and not only asked her opinions, but valued her opinions as well.   • AW begins Season 2 June 8th and the Season on DVD comes out June 10th, As for JAG on the big screen it would depend on the script and whether it appealed to the masses. The fact that it never made an impact at the Emmy's or Globes in spite of some excellent storylines and acting I don't hold out for much success at the box office, unfortunately.     • They only give Emmys and Globes to shows that the critics think are very good, but aren't what TV viewers want to see. There are many movies that have great casts but do very poorly at the box office because the movie just sucks. JAG would do very well if it's done right. People do like Military shows and movies. Add in characters that people can identify with. JAG did last ten years for a reason, IT's good. Have a marriage at the Naval Academy chapel, add in a good investigation either aboard ship or another country, have a few good court scenes where Harm and Mac work together, and you have a hit.     • I agree Frank that a JAG movie wouldn't work. I don't ever see it happening myself. As far as a Catherine movie, she's done 3 already: The Triangle, Still Small Voices and The Good Witch, all where she's the lead. Granted they weren't on the big screen, but they were on 3 big networks and she setting ratings records with each one. As long as she keeps these wonderful projects coming I'll be ready and excited to tune in. For me JAG had a great 9 year run and that's all I need. They've done it all and there's really nothing left to do. Mac will go down in history in my opinion as one of the best characters on TV because of Catherine's portrayal.     • The reason you don't recall this is because it's basically a Bud and Harm driven story. Raglan steals a sub with Bud on board. Harm figures out not only does this show how easy it would be to do, but also that Raglan usually adds a humiliation factor (attempts once again to kidnap an Admiral's wife). • Since we are choosing from 'Front and Center' this week for Mac Faves I thought I'd start a little discussion. -- Jubellant, 11:28:19 04/01/08 Tue
  This episode dealt with a Marine fleeing from coming forth as a witness in a rape case and good old Jingo. Once again Mac drew the fluff case. Harm seemed to be granted aviation cases as he knew the mentality. I wonder why Mac was not granted the same courtesy in Marine cases. She handled the bigomy, polygomy cases, peeping toms, overweight sailor case etc. Why weren't these delegated to more junior staff? Opinions anyone? It sort of in the spirit of jagnut's respect question below.

  • I think because AJ at times didn't respect her, and very much at times treated Mac like black sheep of the group. I guess there are no "small" cases, but yeah Mac got way more than her fair share of the crappy cases. And then when she finally lands a decent one, Harm whines about & AJ (in what has to be the most show of favortism ever) takes it away from her & gives it to Harm. Maybe Mac should've whined more...I did like the Jingo storyline for one reason, cause is showed Mac's softness for animals, & she saved Jingo's life by adopting him.   • i think DB played down mac's part. the actors were just following the script. The episodes which mac played A line. Like The Stalker, ,the Court martial of Sandra Gilbert, Two Towns, The whole Praguay series ,Persian gulf,4% Solution were the best Jags. the original jag was about harm. had they let Mac do the good stuff it would have become more about a Mac series and DB did not want this.     • DB does not write women strong period....he may start out that way, but as a series progresses, he always dumbs then down, or gives them flaws that are waaaaay more personal in nature. The more they threw at Mac the more I loved the character and wanted to see her persevere all the more LOL!       • Case in point, 'In Thin Air' just aired this week and when Harm was severed from this case for not aggresively defending his client he was cut some slack by AJ even when he went vs. orders and interfered to discover his client had vertigo. Bud falls asleep and is saved by his clients action of hiding a fax cover sheet. Mac through no fault of her own, has evidence planted in her car, she like Harm is relieved of the case but instead of being vindicated her integrity is doubted and she is sent running away to seek solace in Mic's arms (just the thing Jennifer wanted to see.         • Its a very valid point....Bud falling asleep in court, instead of being reprimanded he's rewarded with a shipboard tour of duty....Harm instead of being reprimanded is "forgiven" just like the episode in which he thought his client was guilty of Espionage (Redemptions) & took classified information AJ didn't punish him...Singer places a file in Mac's car, which she burns, she had the information anyway thanks to Gunny's legwork, but no AJ had to pull her off the case.   • I'm going to have to go with Cresswell.....I think he respected Mac more, he sure seemed more enthusiastic about her capabilities. I don't know if it was a Marine thing, but I honestly think Cresswell respected her more. Don't get me wrong, I loved AJ, but there were times where I think he belittled Mac & definitely treated her inferior, like when he took the high profile case away from her & stuck her with the flying robot because Harm whined.       • Cresswell did think that Mac was Marine enough otherwise he wouldn't have assigned the loser Vukovic for her to mentor. Cresswell respected Mac enough to think that she could tame this hothead. I think that the Admiral chose professional smart women. Unfortunately they all came with baggage. The judge had a drunken ex, the doctor a spoiled son and the professor committment issues. The judge was the cream of the crop IMHO and was just the victim of a psycho. The other two might have been competent career wise but in their personal lives had much to work out. AJ treated Mac as a daughter at times and not a USMC officer. he would send her on one of Webb's crazy cases then warn Webb"You better not let anything happen to her". Maybe as Mic said he was a little in love with Mac and was over protective. he made her his chief of staff but shielded her. After mac got over being afraid of Gen Creswell she had a very strong personal and profreesional relationship. Not just officer to officer but friend to friend. he asked her help with his daughter.   • I loved AJ, but have to go with Creswell as well. You never knew what to expect from him. When AJ almost took advantage of Mac at her lowpoint, was the biggest flaw that stuck in my craw even if he shelved that impulse. AJ was on Mac's case (kind of like her law professor) to challenge her to rise to her best capabilities. I preferred Cresswell's way. You've been hanging around sailors too long but the condition isn't permanent. He didn't hold a grudge and looked at how far Mac had come since Okinawa. AJ held a grudge, first when she left JAG and even after Mac had acted like Mother Theresa to win his respect back to regain her promation, AJ still doubted her integrity when it came to Singer's alleged planting of evidence in Mac's car.   • I would have liked to know more about Mac's life outside of JAG. We saw Harm play guitar, fly, ride his motorcylce, restore a covette all we saw Mac do was dust a few bones! Saw Harm with Keeter and Sturgis, who did Mac have as former marine friends. Would have liked to see more of her life with Uncle Matt and the positive influence he had on her as well as some of the more positive people who helped Mac become the kick ass marine that she was.   In the series finale we see Mac and Harm finally admit to their love for each other. I must admit it could have gone either way especially considering the ten year battle the shippers endured. Can you see a happy ending here where Mac and Harm are not together? If Harm went to London and Mac to San Diego would you have been content with such an ending?

  • Honsetly NO- I had become a shipper from the first time I was introduced to Mac and Harm in Full Engagement. From the start, they were meant to be together- those dang looks they always gave each other- UST so there... Mac was going to be w. Harm or no one else. Well, let me put it this way- had Mac and Harm found other people, married them, I dont think they would have been truly happy. It was like when Harm said to Mac "Mac I dont think I will ever feel about anyone else the way I feel about you". WOW- then Mac's response "that's very flattering. Word of advice, dont share that with your wife, whoever that may be". I just would have felt let down.   • If JAG had continued with JAG San Diego, I doubt that we would have seen that ending. I'm glad that we never saw the coin land as Mac would have probably been the loser. These two were destined to be together. I felt their chemistry from day one and knew we would be in for a great ride. If Mac and Harm had been paired with some worthy significant others, I could have seen them as being happy but still very much involved with each other and bantering back and forth like siblings. I say this because of the scene with H&M...(Well, how long have you been seeing her? How long have you been seeing Brumby? I'm not seeing him. What'd you do after dinnner? What'd you do?) • Finally Voy is back!! Okay the results for Favourite Mac Visual and Favourite Mac Quote for the episode 'The Return' are in. The Favourite Mac Visual was a three way tie, Mac's warm attitude to Harm when he calls Jordan, Mac's discussion with Harm re: her promotion and Mac challenging Harm to step up to the plate with his defense strategy.   In season 5 we are beginning to see Mac and Gunny's working relationship. What did you think about Mac and Gunny? I was really impressed by how they worked together and loved the episodes with both of them what did you think?
  If the show had not ended the way that it did would you have watched a "jag san diego" type show with Mac and Gunny as the main characters?

  • I would have watched JAG SD because of Mac. It would have been even better if Gunny was more involved. If it warped into Vukovic as top dog I'd really have to think hard.     • I think if Vukovic and his gang had been introduced right it wouldn't have been so bad. You know like NCIS which was shown over two hours to interest us. If Harm and Mac had gone on an investigation in the San Diego area and had worked with them for a couple of weeks, it wouldn't have been so bad. Vic might have been alright if we saw him seven months later, but unfortunately we saw too much of him and saw that he wasn't worth watching. If they had waited to show case him, it could have been done better. JAG-SD could have been a much different show than JAG. Of course having hound dogging after Mac like Mic was definitely a poor thought process. Very few like Mic with Mac. (NT) -- p, 18:11:52 03/23/08 Sun

  • I loved Gunny! He was probably my favorite recurring character....It's a shame that the actor had his role eliminated due to "budgetary" issues because of contractual issues, its a shame he was let go. I think Gunny and Mac had a very healthy respect for the other. Mac being an officer treated Gunny more like an equal, & realized what a valuable resource he was. Gunny didn't treat Mac any different because she was a woman, he respected her & her abilities. My favorite eps are the ones in which Mac & Gunny worked together...Guilt, New Gun in Town.
