Fair Winds and Following Seas to JAG! We shall miss you!

Welcome! This MB was created for fans of the Donald Bellisario Production's JAG's Lt. Colonel Sarah Mackenzie.   Mac: Joe MacKenzie was a confused and miserable drunk. But I left him. He paid the bills and he tried to cook and he looked at my homework...yeah, he even cleaned the house. He made a home for me in his own pathetic way. What I'm saying is that that almost means more to me than you coming back after all these years. Why should I care if you were frightened that I might reject you? You rejected me. You abandoned me! And I did the same thing to my father. It was for the best, I guess. If I'd been with you, I probably would've woken up one morning to find you gone again.
  
  
  You know it's been a long time since I saw this episode and I guess as I read this quote, this was a lot deeper episode than it is really given credit. This is season 4 and it is written by Dana Coen one of my favorite writers for JAG. Perhaps this is one of the first glimpses into how good CB was going to be in this role? Not to take away from previous episodes, it just seems to me like this is probably the deepest one about Mac at the time.It kind of gave us a whole new insight into Mac. What were your feelings about this episode?

  • What I liked about this episode was that it finally gave Mac some closer on her disastrous childhood. She came to terms with what her father had managed to do for her in spite of his alcoholic state and she learned that he was proud of what she had done with her life. Even when Joe was no longer a threat she learned that her Mother would never be there for her. She had to ask to be held and it was all abou her mother's needs not her daughter's. Her mother did not exhibit any interest in her daughter's life or express any desire to be a part of it in the future. Mac was free to close the book on both parents and get on with her own life.   • I think when we see a story that showcases a characters parents, and their past, it's almost always a profound episode. Stories like that cut right down to the heart of the matter, no longer focusing on that characters strengths, but how they became so strong. Pain is a powerful catalyst. It can make you or break you.   • It's one of my favorite JAG episodes. I love the interaction between Mac and the Priest who ran the hospice. I liked the ending where Mac comes to the realization that her father, who had major faults, did love her and tried to do his best raising her. (NT) -- Kathleen, 06:31:52 12/18/06 Mon
  • I actually cried in this ep-- you could see the hurt that Mac was feeling-- she was almost like a little girl again-- she really had no parents growing up-- question-- she was close to Uncle Matt, why didnt she go and be w. him? Almost like how Harm was in the service and took care of Mattie, I am sure that Uncle Matt could have done the same... Catherine absolutely rocked in this ep--- you could just FEEL what Mac was feeling--- again those facial expressions!!!     • Wel, at this point Uncle Matt was in Federal prison, and whether or not Mac went to see him we'll never know. After all, we (the looky loos) can't be privy to 'everything' our characters experience. But, although Matt might have offered her understanding, Mac had truely, finally found herself after her 'epiphany' with her parents. This was the point, IMVHO, where Mac 'the Marine' became Mac 'the Woman',' a whole person, whom I could adrmire and respect. It is one of my very favorite episodes for this reason. IMVHO, Second Sight is the episode which defines Mac and in which she becomes the whole person we all relate to.   Here's a new photo to chat about when you get the chance.
  Did you enjoy Mac most as a lawyer or as a KA Marine??? It seems to me that although Mac was a good lawyer she seemed to especially shine in the episodes where there was more than a courtroom trial. It was always more interesting to me to see her in action as opposed to only courtroom scenes. What do you all think?

  • I too loved Mac in Marine mode because she was allowed to excel there. It is also telling on her website that she has a photo of her in marine garb toting a rifle stating she knows how to use it too LOL! I loved take charge action Mac who was very credible in the role. Whether coming up with a solution in the mine field, kicking butt with the Admiral to free Josh, or evacuating employees from the Embassy Mac certainly ruled!! I liked Mac as an attorney as well as she was not afraid too go for the jugular but unfortunately her expertise as a lawyer was not as frequently rewarded by TPTB.   Just a heads up that Aussie JAG fans finally get to see the final ever episode of JAG next week. I watched Dream Team last night and i even started getting teary in a few of the scenes in it!!! Imagine what i will be like next week! I just can't believe that after next wednesday, there will be no more new JAG eps on TV ever.
  
  Personally i want to thank DJE, CB, PL and all other cast for making JAG the best TV show ever. They will definately be missed!

  Catherine Bell again attended the post wedding bash for Tom and Katie last night at Beverly Hills in the home of Paula Wagner and husband Rick Nicita.
  I already requested for my friends at the Batman forums and Katie forums to share a photo of CB but Im being patient because they're so busy and so many pics of guests to upload.

  • My favorite one has to be "All Ye Faithful". I just loved how it had elements of so many other Christmas stories/shows interwoven throughout the show, like Bud telling little AJ to be careful with the rubber band or he'd shoot his eye out (a reference to the movie "A Christmas Story) and then Harm giving his wings to the guy he saw (Lt. Clarence) while visiting the Vietnam Wall Memorial who missed getting his wings because he missed his graduation to take care of a friend on suicide watch (a reference to the movie "It's a Wonderful LIfe".   (I almost hate to post this because of all the cool CB stuff)
  In the new video that Theresa made I noticed the scene with Mic and Mac, where Mac is crying beside the window.If you didn't see the video this is the scene from Adrift, where they are waiting news about Harm. I have often wondered about this scene, to me this is the time that so clearly spoke to Mic that Mac was not going to be his. The look on his face when he tries to comfort Mac, I think this was where he made his decision to not go through with the wedding.What do you all think, was this the final straw? He told Renee in the Lifeline episode no worries, about Mac and Harm talking on the porch, but I think he had some serious doubts here in this scene.What made him decide against the wedding so quickly?

  • This cinched it in his mind that Mac didn't love him as much as she loved Harm. But as bad as it may sound, I think that he was waiting to hear if Harm was alive or not. He wanted Mac, and if Harm was out of the picture he would never have to worry about her leaving him for Harm. Also though, I think that he didn't want to believe what he was seeing. When he asked to reschedule the wedding for the following Saturday and she declined, that was when he decided to call it off. He just had to work up to doing it.   • Okay, I'll bite. At first Mic tried not to take things too personally. Harm had been Mac's partner for 5 years. Privately he was shocked at the depth to which Mac seemed to be affected. Mic pushed too soon for Mac to reschedule the marriage. It showed how insecure he was. 'Til that point he deluded himself into believing Mac would grow to love him as much as he loved her. When she balked at rescheduling, he knew she did not love him they way he wanted her to. He wanted to get married before Mac came to her senses and backed out altogether. This time Mac did not try to assuage his feelings by hiding her concern for Harm. I never understood why Mac went after Mic at the airport (guilt I guess) and for TPTB to set up the most frustrating scene of all time (crying in the rain outside Harm's).     • I think she followed him because she didn't want him to leave her. No one leaves Mac. She always leaves them. The last person to leave Mac before Mic was her mother.   After looking at the cast picture of Army Wives, I'm starting to wonder if Catherine's character is a lot like Bree Vandacamp in Desperate Housewives. You a know..a homemaker who hides behind a perfect house and a perfect family that she pretends is perfect, but inside it really is a nightmare. I can't wait to see how she portrays this character and if her character is similar to who Marcia Cross portrays in Desperate Housewives.

  • From the sides of the descriptions of the characters, Catherine's character is nothing like Bree on Desperate housewives. Catherine's character is described as a very conservative (hence her clothing), loving devoted housewife and mother who loves her husband and son very much. Her issue she deals with is that her teenage son abuses her. They said she would be dealing with alot of emotions on how it started happening and questioning her job as a mother for her son to be doing this to her. She also keeps it from her husband because she doesn't want him to have to deal with it with him being in the military and sent into the war zone.     • I wouldn't look for her to be anything like Marcia Crosses character. While it will be a drama with some twists & turns & secrets & a bit of comedy thrown in, I wouldn't look for it to be like Desperate Housewives. The series is based on the book "It's based on the book "Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives" by Tanya Blank. Army Wives," which debuts in March 2007, will focus primarily on a group of five spouses, including one male "wife" who form a bond on the base, & who all have secrets that could harm their families. Desperate Housewives just seems plain wierd & out there to me...LOL. It just doesn't sound to me like it's going to be as wierd & out there as that show.   I saw on CNN showbiz that CB might be among the many guests again for the rumored top secret party for Tom and Katie in Los Angeles. Its more partying for their many celebs friends who could not make it to Italy and this party will be hosted by TC's partner Paula Wagner and might be taking place next week.
  
  I just didnt like the CNN entertainment hosts for commenting that CB is from Jag but they added that Jag is a B-show which many people have not heard of.
  I dont get the media's cheap shots at JAG?

  • Well so many substories going on here. No one particularly happy. That said I thought that C.B. did a GREAT job of portraying angst. She was in an adulterous relationship but seemed tormented about it. I just found it hard to believe the implanted chip thing though. 3 wks for infection to set in, no redness, inflammation, no fever? She's a dancer wearing sleeveless tops doesn't notice some sort of mark from the implantation? Did you see the size of that chip? Just what size needle would this guy of had to use to implant it? No loving emotions by anyone. No compassionate hugs, no affection shown by anyone. The aggresive homeless guy, the druggie friend, a sad angry story. You know she's doing a great job when you just wanna reach through and give her a big hug because she's in pain. Such a different role for her and she did a great job as usual.     • Her character was a woman trapped in an obsessive/controlling marriage to a sad man who was so insecure he couldn't believe that she loved him. You could just feel her pain when she exclaims, "What a mess" & her deep remorse at hurting her husband & realizing that she fell for Wes's lies &that he really didn't are for her. All of this realization at once coming down on her & what all happened as a result. And then her closing realization that Wes didn't care about her at all. She just played her role so well & believable & powerful. She truly just keeps blossoming and growing as wonderful actress. There wasn't a drop of Mac in this portrayal & that speaks highly for an actress who played a role for 9 years & is best known for that role.   Are you all enjoying the DVD as much as I am?
  Its cool to finally some deleted scenes that USA network and even CBS dont air on TV. Im laughing along with CB's commentaries and my shipper heart also singing along.
  
  My only complaint is that the JAG DVD does not have much featurettes. How long do we have to wait for the rest of the DVDs?

  • I too enjoyed Catherine's tongue in cheek commentary. It was informative, inclusive and fun. I hope they let her do MANY more in the upcoming releases.   • I too loved CB's commentary. She did her job very well in doing a commentary on an episode. She was fun, enthusiastic and informative. Loved all the stuff she brought your attention to that normally you wouldn't have noticed. I love how she can laugh and poke fun at herself. • Just saw the previews on SVU-- CANT WAIT to see Catherine in this role!!! It was funny how in the previews they say:who killed the model? Was it her husband Chris Sarandon, his mistress Catherine Bell (LOL I was laughing at that word- mistress!!
