  • Answered Prayers from S7 is one of my all time favorites. i apppreciate that DB was not afraid to put christ in christmas. We have all kinds of story lines. From Chaplin turners beautiful brief homily about joseph and the reactions of the congrigation. Humor with "Lt Witch to you" re lt Singer by harm. Romance. Favorite mac scene was the tender kiss. Fav. mac quote is in response to chloe's question"Can your best friend become your boyfriend?" mac"---sometimes". Jenniefer busted for impersaniting Santa. then beginning to turn around her life due to harm's intervention. interesting that when he neede helpHarm turned to Mac. She was his best friend.     • I just wish Jen would've acknowledged Mac's contributions as well...Mac had the chance to counsel Jen, while Jen was staying with her. We saw a little bit of that, and the fact that Jen knew Mac came from a tough background and was able to succeed & become a lawyer and respected Marine Corps officer. Not saying that what Harm did wasn't important, but I also think Mac contributed as well. Most of this ep was just okay for me, though I did *love* Mac in her cowboy PJ's interacting with Chloe.     • In a way she did, she beame a legalman aboard ship. She could have opted out of the navy, she had the chance, but she decided to stay in. Chloe telling her about Harm and Mac, what they had to overcome from their childhood, and became quite successful, showed her she wasn't alone, that others had problems too. They didn't let it be an excuse in their lives. Jennifer staying in the Navy was her second chance in life. she became a legalman, succeeded, was reccommended to join JAG headquarters staff by Mac.   A miracle is needed as events on Christmas Eve conspire to prevent the JAG team from spending Christmas Day together at Bud and Harriet's. Just as Bud and Harriet start to prepare for their festive dinner, Bud finds his family is broke because of a payroll problem. While trying to rectify the situation, Harriet becomes ill and the diagnosis is surprising. Harm and Admiral Boone seem doomed to spend Christmas aboard a carrier until the opportunity to ferry a fighter back to New Jersey presents itself. Unfortunately, they're forced to detour when they're called upon to locate and escort a C-130 that is having navigation problems. Meanwhile, back at JAG Headquarters, the Admiral and Mac have their hands full with a displaced Marine couple about to have a baby and three lost Saudi diplomats.CBS

  "On Christmas Eve, Harm pays his annual visit to the Vietnam Memorial to honor his father who was shot down on Christmas Eve, 1969. At the memorial, Harm meets a beautiful, but mysterious woman, who claims to have known Harm, Sr. She used to be a singer in a traveling USO tour and she met Harm's father shortly before his fateful flight." CBS
  This episode is one of those "alternate universe" episodes and I guess you either loved it or you hated it. I believe this is Catherine singing but am not sure if you click on the link above you can see it.

  • In an interview Catherine said she did the singing. i liked the episode. I guess the kiss was one of my favorite parts. Catherine did such a good job acting i did not catch on that the lady at the wall was really her till i watched a second time.     • I always thought it was CB singing. It sounded like her to me. CB has a nice singing voice, though maybe not good enough to make a career of it.   • I really like the story, enjoy the fun roles they've created for everybody and the love story - however, I DO imagine it *not* to be Harm's dad; I just fool myself when watching that it had no relation to our characters, just like in Each Of Us Angels. Why? Because this is the part I *didn't* like about the episode - that they turned Harm Sr. into a cheater!! The kiss is bad enough, but the way it is done it is implied that it might've even been more! I could live with him having continued his life in Russia, even having another son, as it seemed he couldn't come back home. But *this* was unnecessary, IMO! (NT) -- Colie, 01:45:01 12/08/07 Sat
    • Was he cheating or was he saving a young woman's life? She was very depress. Senior did what was nessecary to convince her that life was worth living even if the love of her life was dead. Think about this way too, he probably told Trish that if he was killed or MIA, he wanted Trish, his wife, to go on with her life and remarry so she would have someone and Junior would have a father.       • Yes he saved her life, but he would've had the same important influence on her had he not gone so far as to kiss her as well, IMO (not to mention that it is at least 'implied' that there was more!) Of course he would've wanted Trish to move on if he died, but *he*, at this point, hadn't died! Let's look at this from another angle: What if he hadn't died, and had gone home? Would he have told Trish he had kissed another woman, and if yes, would she be upset? Yes, because he kissed another woman. What if Trish, back home, had kissed another man because he had lost his wife and she wanted to 'convince her that life was worth living'? Would Harm Sr. had been upset? Yes.   • This is NOT one of my favorite episodes, and I rarely rewatch it. When I do, I click it off before the last part. For one thing, I don't like HR Sr. apparently cheating--it just doesn't fit with Harm's squeaky-clean, honorable image. But the biggest reason I don't watch is that it's just too sad.   I hve a question about the episode "Someone to Watch Over Annie" if anyone out there can give me a definitive answer. I caught the tag end of it this morning on USA, specifically the scene where Mac distracts the armed guard on board the ship and then kicks him unconscious. I don't know how many times in original and reruns I have seen this particular scene, but I always come up with the same question -- what exactly does Mac say after knocking the guard out? Just before the kick, the guard is distracted by Mac's footware and makes the comment: "Nice boots." Mac's next line, logically, should be: "I hate it when someone stares at my boots," but every time I hear it, it sounds like "I hate it when someone stares at my boobs." I don't think the script would have said that -- it doesn't fit with the moment or the character -- but I wonder if CB accidentally said the wrong word and they just decided to leave it in. Of course, my ears could be bad. Does anyone know if I am hearing it wrong, or did CB accidently say the wrong word?

  • It's called enunciation. On the east coast, particularly the northeast, people put emphasis on the last letter of a word, such for booT, booB, booK.. People in western US don't make the T,B,K sound so it's probably easy to edit over boob to boot. SInce Mac puts emphasis on the T,B,K sounds, it's harder to sdit over, but it's easier to understand what she is saying, which also makes her a better actress. (NT) -- p, 21:13:20 12/10/07 Mon

  • Deemus & Veggie-friend have brought up story arcs that I certainly wish never would've happened. I'll also add the whole Mic fiasco to the list, it never should've drug on as long as it did, & it would've been nice if Mac had been the one to end things, waaaay before it ever made it to a wedding. But the tops I think has to be the "forgotten" husband & lets also add the affair with Farrow, that was done IMHO to discredit Mac's character in one big ole' swoop. The endometrosis was just plain mean-spirited, like TPTB decided after everything they've thrown at Mac, they were gonna throw the kitchen sink at her too. It just wasn't necessary, or if you were going to do it, then at least give her her miracle. A blurb at the end of FWFS...Mac & Harm got their 4% miracle with the birth of....     • I agree with most of what you said, but I think you forgot that DB wasn't trying to demean Mac, He was filling in the background of a MAJOR character. Abusive father, mother ran away, drank too much, got married to escape. pretty bad teenage years, yet despite all this she overcame it all, graduated highschool, went to college, join the marines, became a lawyer, why? because a senior officer believed in her.   • I didn't mind the husband, or even the Endometriosis. Well I minded them, but I wouldn't necessarily change them. People do stupid things when they are young and want to forget about them as they get older. It's not like she married anyone else under false pretenses during that time. She had every right to wait as long as she wanted to get a divorce. They were separated long enough that it wouldn't make any difference in the civilian world. And infertility can happen to anyone.   • Ya ya here I go again defending my Micster. I think he was a good diversion for Mac while she waited for the great procrastinator to hone in on her radar. What bugged me most was the whole Webb arc. He put Mac in grave danger once again, he drank in her home, she had to warn him not to shut her up when she was trying to open up to the one person who knew exactly what she was going through post Sadik, he continuously lied to her, he kept her in the dark when she was keeping company with Simon a known ruthless assassin, he admitted to not seeing her but the job when he chose to use his lousy markmenship to try to eliminate Simon. He told her she risked her life twice for him and sounded like he expected her to continue to do so as if it wasn't sheer luck she was still alive. Need I say more?   Well I posted this the other day but it's gone so anyway let me try again and see if it actually stays a day or two. I was thinking that maybe we could take a few weeks during the holiday season and discuss the "christmasy" episodes of JAG. Do you think this would be ok or would you prefer to continue to the next episode in season 4? I know we talked about Jaggle bells and we could revisit this one also. We have not yet talked about ghosts of christmas past, all ye faithful, a merry little christmas, answered prayers or the four percent solution(does this one count as a christmas episode?) I think season 6 didn't have one. Anyway I thought it might be fun to do this during the month of December What do you all think?

  • i just finished rewatching A Merry Little Christmas S9. Loved it all except the ending. iI hated it when Mac left to go on date with Webb . i would have liked it better if harm, mattie and mac went home and had a fire, some ginger ale, and sat around and got chummy.     • Because it was Christmas Eve & Harm hadn't asked her (nor apparently had anyone else) to do anything on that special night, so I don't blame Mac for not wanting to be alone. Harm's invitation was a little late, more like an afterthought, & she had made plans in advance. Who wants to be alone? I don't blame Mac one bit, while it would've been nice if TPTB had her say "I have plans but I can change them" sure it would've been nice to have her & Harm get together, but they were still a little strained at this point.   Sorry but it appears that VOY has deleted several months worth of messages, and god only knows why. I know I shouldn't complain, its a FREE message board, but it really ticks me off because we've lost almost 4 months of discussions.
  
  There was a problem earlier with responding to messages, and then when you tried to back up and restore the current stuff went POOF and well it looks like we are going to have to start over.

  Im curious on your thoughts for those that watch CB's new show AW. It made me think what I would do if I were Frank and what Harm would do. Seeing how much Harm loves Mac and is so protective of her if Jeremy were their own son and they're dealing with the same rough situation.
  What do you think Harm will do if he finds out their son is beating up Mac?
  
  Im not sticking up to Frank nor I see all his actions as wrong because I can totally understand and would have a hard time forgiving my son too if he did this to his own mother and my wife.

  When I think back about this it seems like Mic was gone a long time ago but here he is in the begining of season 7.
  This was a rough episode from a Mac fan viewpoint. Not just from Mic walking out on her in the airport but also from this conversation with Harm followed by her standing in the rain at the end of the episode.I was happy to see Mic gone but so sad to see Mac hurt. (I bet Jubellant will have a response to this, I don't mean to upset you just making conversation)

  • Me upset, why? I loved the Harm/Mac dynamic. I ultimately hoped they'd hook up in the end. BUT Mic made me laugh. Loved that he rattled Harm's cage. He was a good diversion for Mac as Harm dithered about getting his head out of his six. Mic was hurt too. Mac did her share of toying with him. She headed to Australia when she was left off the invitee list. The charade continued once she got back States-side. This scene always breaks my heart as Mac gets rejected on two fronts. That pic of her standing in the rain outside of Harm's looking so forelorn and alone always gets to me. I thought it was cruel to Mac and to those of us who thought at last Harm becons and Mac goes.   • This was a rough episode because they made Mac look bad....she NEVER should've begged Mic to stay, it would've been nice if the writers had given both characters their dignity & let them end things like adults, realizing that they weren't right for each other. Mac wasn't in love with him, & Mic's type of love was a stifling, manipulative one...I hated the way the writers had Mac begging Mic to stay, the only thing she didn't do was get down on her hands & knees, which I was fully expecting given how the writers wrote her.     • Hi Jennifer. I usually agree with you, but here I disagree. I think that scene - Mac practically begging Mic not to leave her - shows her love for him. Because love is the only emotion that could have prompted that scene from Mac. Love makes everyone react in ways they never would otherwise. It's when I knew she really cared for him. It doesn't mean she didn't love Harm, but I think she also loved Mic.       • Oh I don't think there's a question that Mac cared for Mic, probably loved in him a way, but it wasn't that kind of deep, passionate IN LOVE feeling. Now I know people who have built successful lasting relationships on these same feelings, but to me there was more too it. Like Doc said, I saw Mic as a potentional abuser, given the fact I thought he liked the booze a little too much. He had no respect for Mac whatsoever with her alcoholism, & this fact always bugged me. I do think eventually Mic would've isolated Mac, & made her chose between him & her friendship with Harm. I just didn't like the way the made her sooooooo desperate to hang onto Mic, that wasn't Mac. No one wants to admit that they spent the better part of two years trying convince themselves they felt something that they just couldn't quite feel for real. And I truly believe given the characters that were presented, that if Mic had turned around and talked to her, they still would have been broken up by the end of the conversation.           • That's what I would've like to of have taken place....them to have a conversation, realize that it wasn't going to work, & say their goodbyes. Not having one begging the other to stay, it was IMHO very demeaning to Mac. If they could've had an adult talk, & ended things as amicably as they could've, it would've settled much better for me. I agree that Mac was going through a rollercoaster of emotions...I also agree that Mac didn't want to hurt anyone, which is why she IMHO allowed Mic to "persuade" her to wear the ring as friendship ring even after she'd said NO.               • When Mic phoned Harm and found Mac there, that was his answer. I think when he gave up everything to be with Mac he was hoping she would realize just how much he loved her. Mic was a cocky arrogant guy who thought he'd be able to win Mac over. He really saw the depth of Mac's feelings for Harm when his plane went down. Mic knew he would always come second, that he wasn't Mac's best friend and nothing she said would change that. Her actions had spoken louder than her words. He was hurting and didn't want any more salt poured in his wounds. He had to be the one to walk away there was really nothing more to be said.           • Yep....I think it was Chains of Command, when she walked in & Harm was having his usual bourbon & was smoking a cigar. He asked Mac if the drink bothered her, & she replied "its your drink..." and then proceeded to say that the cigar bothered her LOL! This issue always bugged me, Mic brought it into her home, his first comments to her "your company doesn't have to be sober" & so did Webb. I can see Mac being okay in a bar or a social setting, but in her own home IMHO is totally different.             • I agree. I also think it was done purposely that Mic and Webb disregarded her in this way. Not only did it show just how much she was settling for the wrong man, but also contrasted that Harm asked her in the beginning if it bothered her. The others never did. I think Mac was more forgiving of Webb's drinking because he'd been through so much. I know my compassion and understanding level would go through the roof if I were ever stuck in a life threatening situation with someone who had been tortured so horribly.   A "shipper" is a person who wants a relationship between two characters, in this case, Harm and Mac. The following quiz was written by a JAG fan to determine if you're a non-shipper, a moderate shipper or an extreme shipper. Enjoy!

With shock, you frantically search for your tape (which also has a very special episode of Macgyver on it!)-only to realize that your ever-faithful loving dog, has chewed it up! The only tape you have with you is your `shipper' tape filled with such classics as `The Stalker', `To Russia With Love', `Gypsy Eyes', `Lifeline', etc. You:
  
  
  a. Shrug it off, pop the `shipper' tape in there and are happy that at least you HAVE a tape.
  
  
  b. Frantically call up your family, your friends, that nice guy at the subway, your estranged step-grandmother's second cousin twice removed... Surely they will tape this for you.
  
  
  c. Unhappily settle for having this very special Christmas JAG episode not be taped... While during commercials you look over at your shipper tape and think `red rum'.
  
  
  2. In that very special Christmas episode, Harm and Mac share a kiss. However, in a strange twist of fate, Harm, with an unhappy grin (smile?) says `I know, you were kissing HIM'. You automatically think:
  
  
  a. `Oh, not this soap opera crap again... Everyone knows that a man and a woman in a working-relationship on television would NEVER resort to that. This sucks. Bah! Humbug! Why can't television be more realistic?'
  
  
  b. `This shoe right here would look pretty good against my television set. Why are TPTB doing this to us!? Why can't Harm and Mac be together... even just for Christmas???? She was NOT thinking of him, she was thinking of you!! Harm you are such a blockhead!'
  
  
  c. `Awww, that was romantic...'
  
  
  3. Someone on the JAGlist states that `Harm and Mac being together will kill the show'. You:
  
  
  a. Heartily agree, listing the reasons why and how Harm and Mac being together will kill the show, kill the UST, blah blah blah...
  
  
  b. Become incensed. What blasphemy!! You list the reasons why Harm and Mac being together would improve the show... Ratings would skyrocket, you could have it be a `b' plot and just show them on dates, it shows that normal (wait... a second...) people have normal relationships (...Harm and Mac= normal??).
  
  
  c. Can see both sides, and you come to the realization that Harm and Mac belong in the loony bin for a couple of weeks (years) until they can stop their tangled dance (maybe Webb can give them lessons? I'm sure Mac wouldn't mind...), and THEN perhaps at the end of the series they would be ready for marriage.
  
  
  4. On tonight's episode of JAG, Harm smiled at Mac. With a flickering candle in the background. You automatically think:
  
  
  a. `Oh my God, the shippers will be all over this. So what if he smiled at her? It's just a smile! In fact, smiling was seen as `baring one's teeth' back in the olden days, so in all actuality Harm could be MAD at Mac'.
  
  
  b. `A CANDLE! A SMILE!' You subconsciously thank TPTB for this nice imagery and enjoy the rest of the episode.
  
  
  c. `Awww, how sweet!'

  Wow! As I was posting the picture below I was thinking about what Deemus said below about the expressions of CB or in this case Mac. The picture below and the scene from the end of this episode where she is standing in the rain just really stand out. But the one that stands out most in my mind is the one from Four percent solution where she leans her head against the door and you can see the tears fall down her face. I thought I would continue on the topic and ask what other facial expressions stand out in your memory of Mac???

  • I think the first JAG episode I had ever seen-Full Engagement--the look in her eyes when she was telling Harm about did you see his eyes? (The poacher she had killed)--that expression just killed me!! Definitely 4% Solution!!! The rain scene :( Silent Service-- that LOOK towards the sailors WATCH OUT!! LOL... Can't remember-PG or Take it Like a Man-- the scene when she is looking at the drink left by Webb and then throws it WOAH!!!!!     • That scene was the first that came to my mind, as well. It was TIME already, the series was obviously (to me) winding down. The place was right (not in DC), the time was right (9th season), and the opportunity was there. And again, an argument they should have gotten over long, long ago. I gave up after that. and frankly, the 10th season was a waste (IMVHO, of course).   • I can deal with Paraguay as there were concussions and PTSD to deal with. I think the end of A Merry Little Christmas when she says, "I have a date with Webb" was the one that got me. Webb was almost a non-entity before that. That episode was incredibly shippery. Showing Mac doing her best to help Harm and saying "we're almost there" about the baby deal, asking him if he had "another woman" standing in court and saying she wanted a man "like" him to be the father of her children.   • My most frustrating moment was under the bridge in Boomerang. Mac laid it out to harm. This was thetime. A long ways from home. harm just sat there and did not respond. i wanted to reach into the TV and shake him.   I am impressed every time I open up the Mac message page. Someone looking quickly at the five photos at the top might see five different women. Only a closer look shows CB five times, with different expressions. Of course, there are pictures from six or eight years' span, but still--what a beautiful, expressive face Catherine has! I just watched Rendezvous yesterday (DH finally found a DVD player that will work!) and I was amazed again at the amount of expression and emotion shown by Mac/CB. Now, there's an actress!

  • Deemus I coudn't agree more with you!!! They just showed a preview for this week's AW episode and Catherine's expression just says it all!!! The one thing that has always drawn me to Catherine's projects and wanting to support her in her career is her expressions and the way that she can deliver lines. Not to mention, the girl is just cool-- beautiful, smart, athletic, down to earth, kind, caring, etc. When an actress/actor has these qualities, it just draws you more to wanting to see them in their projects.   • I have to weigh in on this subject too. I agree with all the above statements. That is one of the things I love about CB, she embodies the character she is playing. She also is able to display a wide range of ages as well and she is believable in them all. You never see CB but the character she is portraying at that particular point in time. I love watching to see how she will interpret certain scenes and am never disappointed. I just say hang on CB's going to take us on a fantastic ride, be it joy, sadness or just plain old fun!   • I agree with the prior post. Catherine can play many different parts and be so believable. Compaire some of her parts before and during Jag. In Men of War she is tough Gracie. In Crash Dive she is Lt.Comd. Lesa Stark., she ends the film catching the hero and his young son.Mother of the Bride (1993) She plays Chastity a naughty party girl.Bruce Almighty shows a hint that she can be very funny.Cab to Canada she is Sandy, the secretary who cares for the child and helps get her man and the boy shaped into a family.I greatly admire the skill to fit these in around mac and hit them all so well.   Which story archs did you like?
  
  Trip to Russia, Time spent in Afghanistan going after the terrorist and the radioactive material. Harm and Mac appeared quite close at that time.
  
  
  Which ones did you dislike?
  
  Webb going to Paraguay with Mac instaed of Harm. Webb had a history of failed operations. Why not send Harm and Mac to do the job. The rescue of Gunny would have been planned better.
  
  Also after the crash, it would have been better if Harm and Mac were lost in the jungle for a few episodes. It would have gotten them closer as Mac queried Harm about why he came after her.
  
  
  Which ones would you have liked to have been longer?
  
  Harm and Mac's trip to Russia in search of his father is my choice. It only lasted two episodes. Might have been better if they had spent a few months over six or more episodes.
  
  The possibilty was there when they were shot down. Time traveling with the gypsies. Could have investigated where his father had been.
  
  Would have been nice to see Harm and Mac visiting his mother after they returned from Russia. It would have been nice to see Harm and Mac closer after the trip instead of seeing her exhusband showing up and causing distance between them.
  
  Another was Harm's abort stay flying tomcats. Would have been nice to have more episodes lasting close to half a season. How would they deal with the separation?

    • The first couple with Palmer were OK, but after the episode where he pretended to be Harm the whole Palmer character became a joke for me. That was such an unrealistic plot line IMHO.   Ever After : A cinderella story where the Prince chases after the beautiful mystery woman. A woman who was out of his reach. She dreams about the possibility of marrying the prince. The heartache. And her dream coming true.
  
  Lord of the Rings : great movie to watch with Chloe and later AJ. She like story telling with the dinosaur tracks. Mythology is in the same vein.

  I've been lurking here and on CB for a while...Anyway I've been watching Jag re-runs on FX (OK, so they're re-re-re runs, but who's counting?), FWFS is on next week, I've only seen it once before and something's been bugging me.
  
  Say, Harm and Mac did "the deed" before going to McMurphy's that night, would they be breaking any part of the UCMJ(sp)? I'm just thinking that there are similarities between that situation and Mac and John Farrow (Farell?). In Japan, Mac thought she'd get away with it as she had already been reposted and was shipping out the next day, Farrow was a senior officer.
  But at the end of FWFS Harm with his promotion was also a senior officer......iyswim?

With Mac and Harm there really would not be that much of a difference. Harm would not have direct authority over her. But I really don't know that's an interesting question.   In some of the very early episodes there is an effort to make a "family" type atmosphere they seemed to have gotten away from that in the later episodes. Do you think more of an effort should have been made to show them outside of work, with friendship opportunities or were we supposed to just assume that they were all close?

I didn't like this story arc one bit, & found it totally unrealistic that Harm would be awarded guardianship of a teenaged girl, who he'd only known for a few months, & who wasn't related to him. Then the whole involving Coates in his personal life, just reeked of fraternization. It wasn't a good arc IMHO....I liked Gunny b/c it was nice to have another Marine around, & since Gunny wasn't the Admiral's Yeoman he could do some investigating & be involved in the cases. I liked Harriet of the earlier years, when she too was involved in things, but Harriet became nothing but a brood mare...It was great watching Bud evolve over the years, & I think he was a necessary "junior" to Mac & Harm.   We all know Mac wanted to have children. For the sake of this discussion let's assume that she was able to.
  
  What kind of fun parent do you think she would be? Many times there is an intellectually fun and funny parent, and then a more physically fun parent. Which do you think she would be? Do you think she'd be the kind to take them to the amusement park and go on every roller coaster with them? Or do you think she'd be more of the type to sit and read books and do more relaxing fun things with them once Harm brought them back from the fair or carnival?

      • Actually, I can see her doing both. In the show she was active & physically fit...running, kickboxing, etc. I'd think she'd want the same for her kids. On the other hand, she was a voracious reader, more than one book at a time. Since, she & Harm are alike that way, I see them both encouraging & participating in physical activities.   • I think Mac would very much be a hands-on mother...she missed a lot of that with her own Mom, I don't think either her mother or father was warm towards her or wanted to spend time with her teaching her things. I can see Harm right alongside as well, since his father went MIA I think Harm grew up faster than he also should've (both Mac & Harm did) & I can see them reliving their childhoods through their own children. CB is already getting me invested in her character and rooting for her to takes some control over her life. Love the ensemble they have assembled. I am relating to them all. Eveyone is so compelling to watch. The humour is injected in just the right spots and I know we are going to be on a roller coaster of a ride! IMO I think this is going to be a MEGAHIT!
