It's been 4 yrs since we last saw Harm. Has he changed in your minds, or will he be forever young? Do you imagine him as a family man in his late 40s,still handsome as ever, but with hair greying around the temples, and a bitty paunch starting? Or will he always be a gloriously muscular, sexy, dashing, and single combat pilot/lawer?

For me, he's Peter Pan; Harm=Gorgeous Man that Dreams are Made on. But it's easy to let him fade into my past.

TG for Araninda's EOTW. My problem is I don't have JAG dvds, and I can no longer play my tapes on vcr. But if it's an episode I know very well, I can revive my memories with the discussions. I'd love to see a reunion, though that's a two edged sword. Reunions are often a big disappointment. Still I'd risk it to see them all again, minus Mikey and Vucovic.

Any thoughts?

- I did recently see a picture of HAE and his hair was, I thought, awfully full of color. I guess I expected him to age. We have become aware of various attitudes towards the moderators that has helped us to make our decision. We've read on their message board that five or six posters want us gone. We have never expected everyone to like us, but we will not be pushed off the boards we've created and maintained for 8 ½ years. We've received a lot of support from other posters who really love the HBs and want them to continue. It doesn't matter whether you are new to our boards or are long time posters, you are important to us and the community.

We really appreciate all the support and suggestions. Someone suggested we get more moderators. In fact, we do have other moderators. We also have The Chief, manette and Claudia.

As for the group that feels so victimized, you can stay or you can go. It's up to you but this conversation is over.

Rerun Episode of the Week – Washington Holiday -- Araninda, 00:32:54 06/30/09 Tue
With Voy going Oy for most of last week, we didn't get to have the EOTW voting. Rather than skipping the week, I thought we'd have a rerun EOTW from Season 2, since we have already discussed all of that season anyway. Later this week we'll have the vote for next week's EOTW. So this week our EOTW is Season 2’s "Washington Holiday”, with an incredibly sexy Harm in peanut butters, dress whites & mess/dinner dress, as well as very tight jeans. Also this episode has some great, memorable lines.

In this episode, Harm escorts a rambunctious Romanian princess around Washington, whose life has been threatened if her father, the king, petitions for his country to join NATO. Meanwhile Bud has his first date with Harriet Sims.

1) On a scale of 0 to 5, with 5 being great, how would you rate this episode and why?
2) Was Harm attracted to the princess? Was she just, as he tells her, an "assignment”? Would their relationship have been different if she had been more mature?
3) Do you think Harm did see the princess once she returned home? If so, how would they have interacted?
4) In this episode, Mac displays sensitivity to Bud & Harriet’s romance and concocts a way to get them back together. Do you see Mac as a romantic at heart? Was that one of the problems between Mac and Harm – she was a romantic and he wasn’t? Or is that true?
5) "Mac, I don’t think of you as a sister.” So, at that point in their relationship, how DID Harm think of her?
6) Did Harm escort Mac to the ball? Or did they each come without dates to such a formal affair? Bud worries about having a date for the ball, yet we don’t see any dates for Harm or Mac.

Someone asked if we could mention scenes that USA Network cuts. In this episode, one scene that is usually cut is of Mac teaching Bud to dance. Also the scene in which Harm carries the princess out of the nightclub is sometimes cut.

- we were talking about that this weekend life gets busy and we've lost so many of our 'humorous' posters - I don't think most folks realize this board is BLUE because it was started by a group of hillarious women who joked, and played with words and had inuendos flying so no one under 18 was allowed. - I love Washington Holiday, so I think it's a 5. 2. He was attracted, but she was his "job" so that uber sense of professionalism kicks in here (not unlike his feelings about Mac). 3. No. That's where the age thing kicks in. She was too young and he was too wrapped up in his job. Furthermore, Harm would see no value in being a "prince consort". I don't see that in Harm's personality, to be a "kept man". 4. Mac and Harm both suffered from idealism/romanticism/ambition, albeit at different times about different things. - This is a five. I loved Harm in this, I loved the reference to "An Officer and a Gentleman" when Harm picked the princess up and carried her out of the nightclub and to her limo. Hey gang! I have been "away" from the board for a while in terms of serious posting, but I do check in about once a week to make sure the paint's not peeling and someone's watering the plants. Lookin' good all around.

I'm glad we're going back to the EotW discussions. Araninda does a great job of asking questions and stuff, and the rest of us do a great job of hashing out the answers. There are still a LOT of great eps left, and I'm looking forward to voting for "Defenseless" - maybe that'll be the next one?

Speaking of which, I saw a commercial for a drug the other day and knew I knew the gal who was doing the talking, but for the life of me couldn't place her. Then, later, it hit me: OH! That's "Beth" from "Defenseless"!! One of my favorite eps because Harm did a better job than the CIA thought he would (as always!), and I really liked seeing the *sparks* between him and Beth. Especially that look at the end... Beth: "I can usually just walk away from a job and not think about it again." Harm: "What happened this time?" **SIGH**!!!

Another character I've seen recently in a commercial is "Larry Kalinsky", Mic's boss from the fancy law firm. He has a bit part in a Dish network (?) ad, and he has all-silver/white hair. LOL

A few more lose thoughts.... happy birthday to all the birthday girls. TH, enjoyed your thread about "Gypsy Eyes" vis-a-vi Mac & Webb. Hope everyone's having a good summer.

Episode of the Week – Boot -- Araninda, 12:03:53 06/23/09 Tue
Well, Voy went Oy for awhile, but we’re back and this week we are discussing Season 1’s "Boot,” which first aired on January 6, 1996. A female Marine recruit is found dead at Parris Island, hanging from a rappel tower. Meg goes undercover as a boot camp recruit in the dead girl’s unit, while Harm is the JAG officer investigating the incident.

1) Using our ratings scale, 0 to 5 with 5 being great, how do you rate this episode and why? What makes this episode interesting to watch? What makes this episode implausible or unbelievable?

2) At the beginning of this episode, Teddy Lindsay is in charge of JAG and gives Harm and Meg their assignments, telling Harm to keep a low profile. How would the show have been different if Lindsay had remained at JAG?

3) When Harm arrives to begin the investigation, Major Cline says to him: “I know your reputation. You’re a heavy hitter.” Was that, in fact, Harm’s investigative style?

4) This episode showcases a strong, tough Meg as she undergoes the rigors of boot camp training. Would the episode have been better with less action and more emotional exchanges about what the recruits were thinking and feeling? Or was it important to the episode to show the toughness of boot camp? And how would this episode have been different if Mac, not Meg, had been undercover as the boot camp recruit?

5) Should Harm have reported Sgt. Gonzales and Major Cline for hiding their marriage?

6) Was the ending scene, with the platoon saluting Meg, too sappy or was it appropriate?

This episode aired out of order, because the scene in JAG headquarters refers to Harm’s actions in Bosnia in “Defensive Action” which won’t happen for another three episodes.

- This was a very strong episode in Season 1 and I'll give it a 4.5. IMO it was one of the better episodes of the season. It was more like what we got from JAG during most of the rest of the run . Inside for rest -- Christa (oh what a pic!), 14:45:18 06/23/09 Tue

- I'll give it a 4. I thought it was one of Tracey's best performances as Meg. I'm not so sure that CB could have done as well if she'd started the first season of JAG. She was pretty stiff as an actress when she first started in Season 2 and gradually grew much better as an actress during the years. I'm not bashing Mac, guys. This is just MHO. - I'm not a big fan of season one--sometimes it seems like an entirely different show--but this episode wasn't bad. I'll give it a 3. The story line wasn't terribly believable (not that that's ever stopped us before!), but I enjoyed seeing Parris Island, where my son did basic training back in the fall of 1996.   - Tragically, this evening in D.C., there was a Metro train (subway) crash & derailment on the Red line. It's being called the worst accident in the 33 year history of our Metro system. Last I heard, 4 were dead (one being the train operator) and scores injured, some critically. The one train ended up on top of the other waiting on the track. Strange how a movie would air with a somewhat similar situation. Yikes- I plan to say prayers for all involved in today's accident. Impact! Starring DJE. The movie looks interesting, if you're into the Moon and space stuff.

We’re back! Here’s the plan – we will pick up the EOTW where we left off in the season-by-season rotation and hopefully discuss all 73 remaining episodes. EOTW Update and Question -- Araninda, 01:19:10 06/18/09 Thu
Thank you for your comments and e-mails about resuming the Episode of the Week (EOTW). Of course I’m interested in continuing this activity. The EOTW began three weeks after the finale aired and has give us lots of fun and some lively discussions to keep the spirit of JAG alive.

So I'm ready to bring the EOTW back -- but I need your input as to how to bring it back. When we paused the EOTW for the Harmy Awards, there were 73 episodes remaining to discuss. We could keep going and discuss every one of those remaining episodes. My concern about doing so, however, is that most of these remaining episodes are not well-remembered or they were hated by fans. If only a few posters remember the episode, or if the episode is widely disliked, will there be discussion?

On the other hand, I’m not sure starting over again is the best answer either. The more popular episodes have been thoroughly discussed over the years and may not invoke much new comments.

I am posting inside the titles of the episodes still remaining to be chosen as the EOTW. Please look the list over and let me know your thoughts about how we proceed. You can reply below or you can e-mail me. Thanks!

Will it be an "extreme" one - you know, drop me off in the woods with a pocket knife and I'll see you in ten days. Or will it be a romantic trip to a secluded, tropical island? Some comments on today's airing of an episode that's usually in the top twenty, if not top ten -- TH, 20:10:32 06/11/09 Thu
USA aired Webb of Lies today, and because of the summer activities of my sons (one has a real job and the other has football "betterbethereoryouwontplay" activities) I am now up really early in the mornings. Watching Harm makes it worth it.

Anyway, one of the reasons I was so vexed in JAG Seasons 8,9 & 10 when TPTB inexplicably paired Mac with Webb goes back to this episode. When Clark Palmer threatens Jordan, Harm tells Webb to give him the semi-conductor, and Webb responds, "She could be my girlfriend, and I wouldn't give it to him." This was quintessential Webb, the job/the mission/his career came first. Sadly, we saw that happen (and I have to give points to the writers for keeping Webb in character) when Webb callously risked Mac's life with Simon.

The other thing that happens in this episode is that Mac refers to Webb as "cute" but I've always taken her comment to mean that, although she and Harm knew that Webb took all kinds of risks, there was something endearing about him. I never took it to mean that she found him attractive in the least. I could argue that Mac showed more interest in Mark Falcon than she did in Webb. So why was Mac interested in Webb? Was it all a part of her PTSD? Is this in keeping with the description of Mac as being ready to go the minute somebody shows interest?

I'm asking if you think that Webb and Mac each stayed true to their characters as drawn early on in the series or if their relationship came out of the blue as a contract negotiation / 500 lb gorilla / UST curse of the waning years of JAG?

Oh, of course the other reasons that this episode is so great is that Harm's make out session with Jordan is smokin' and the smoke becomes FIRE when Harm hops out of bed wearing nothin' but those boxers. That is just about male perfection walking out from behind the wavy wall, ladies. Sigh. I wish I could articulate how well this show used to be written and filmed and how much I adored the character of Harmon Rabb. Sigh again.

- I don't think we were really given enough about CG to form much of an opinion about Harm's attraction to her. I remember feeling angry with the fake wedding. Coming when it did, when DB was open about his disdain for shippers, it felt like a huge slap in the face. The kiss, which we'd all been longing to see between Harm and Mac, was shown as tender, sexy, and lingering, with soft focus and full ochestra. It was as if DB was saying "You wanted a kiss. - When they started into the Paraguay arc and came out the other side with a Mac/Webb hook-up it was the beginning of the end. Especially with TPTB thinking that Vukovic could ever fill Harm's shoes.
