The sound of the man's voice freezes his departure. His blood seemed to have turned to ice in his veins as his mind grasped for any plausible action to take that would make avoiding turning around possible. He was terrified to turn and see that she'd seen him--how could she not? The club was nearly empty. He drew a shaky breath, seeing no avenue out of this. He could only pray the bulk of the man behind him would shield his identity.

He turned, looking at the outstretched keys in the large hand of the man, before meeting the guys eyes. It would be impossible to miss the shaken look in his gaze, but there was gratitude there as well. "You..." He paused, clearing his throat. "You won't have to worry about me." He said, his voice near a whisper. He didn't want it to carry in the emptiness of the room. He grasped the metal, careful to silence the jingle of the keys with his palm. He swallowed hard, and met the man's gaze directly. "Thank you." He says firmly, though it was probably impossible to express his appreciation in those two words.

Unaware that he'd been sighted, he turns for the door, intending to slip to the darkness and get the night over with so he could get back to Chicago and leave Angelina in peace. He'd been really made a mistake in coming here...he had put so much on the line just for his own peace of mind. It wasn't fair to her.

He shoulders the door open, and then makes yet another critical mistake. He steals one last glance over his shoulder...and stops cold. Those beautiful, familier hazel eyes were upon him, widened with shock. And his own dark brown ones had met hers directly, strands of equally dark hair falling haphazardly in the way. Time seemed to stand still, with him looking back at her that way--their shock equal. He was torn, a part of him wanting to go to her, to apologize over and over for everything he'd done...and the other part wanted to skirt out and pretend nothing had passed between them. Yet he was stuck in between, standing with the door propped behind him, his burning gaze locked with hers.
