Subject: Americanisms leave me in the dark.

Every now and then on XF there were things that I didn't quite 'get' and sometimes I didn't realise I wasn't 'getting' it.
I mean, we are pretty up on American stuff here, having it rammed down our throats on Tv forever. Practically all my life I wondered what Oreo cookies looked like and just the other day I had the pleasure of buying a packet of chocolate coated insides ones and eating them for the first time.

But the other night I realised just how much I don't get things on XF. How many yrs since Unnatural aired? Well we all know that Mulder leaves a message for Scully from a Fox Mantle. Hmm , I think at the time. Both names start with M. Must be one of Mulder's old pseudonyms. But just this week I am watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" and he is going on about some baseball that his father got him signed by the great Mickey Mantle. Well my mouth dropped open as finally the penny dropped. Fox Mantle. That's why he named himself that. Duh!!!!!All this time I had no clue about the significance of that name. ha ha ha.
Then once Mulder said something about Tacobell. I knew it must have had something to do with tacos but I never quite understood what he was on about. But over christmas I'm driving down the road in Sydney and hey presto, there's a Taco Bell Restaurant. I"m yelling, Taco Bell Taco Bell. Then there was the thing in the movie about the giant jiffy pop poppers. I assumed it was something to do with pocorn but couldn't quite work out exactly what Mulder was saying, until a while back on a show they had jiffy pop. [did I get that right? ] So yeah, I guess there are heaps of things that I just don't get on the show and haven't even realised it. lol.
Just thought I'd share that as the Mickey Mantle thing really took my by surprise and ammused me after not knowing all these yrs. lol
