Subject: Are all Irish dance schools like this?

New to Irish dancing and finding the culture not great at the school. Is this how it is at all schools, or just ours? If my kid changed to another would it cause problems at comps? Can’t imagine teacher will take it well… Any thoughts appreciated

  - There's very much a culture of cyclical abuse in Irish dance - the current generation of teachers were taught by teachers who yelled and abused and made nasty comments (generalizing, but many will agree) and they are now either cycle breakers or continuing the cycle. Definitely agree with people saying you should change schools. I was previously at a school with a teacher who yelled at me, insulted my intelligence and told a 12 year old to lose weight. She ruined my passion for dance and I was dreading going to class and leaving in tears. I moved schools a few years ago and my teacher at my current school is really encouraging, caring and lovely and the culture at the school reflects that. It doesn't have to be this way so I really recommend finding a school where you're treated with respect and care (just be aware of the 6 month feis ban).
