Jeff raised his head sharply. Amidst the shouts of the guards, he had caught the faint sound of a female voice. "Did you hear that, Gwennie?" he asked quietly, staring around.

Gwennie's heart soared, and immediately she was able to shrug off a good portion of her weariness. She was not alone in this venture. Taking advantage of Jeff's lack of concentration, the small cat gave a mighty wriggle and fell lightly to the ground. She dashed off into the tall grass, heading for the guards.

Jeff was about to dive after Gwennie, but just then he heard the voice again. It was a , and she was in trouble. She seemed to be in the woods, not very far away.

"Hello?" Jeff called, taking a hesitant step towards the trees. He didn't notice as the guards' voices faded away behind him. "Hello! Are you alright?" The voice came again, more insistent, but fading. Concerned, Jeff began to jog towards the woods, calling after the retreating voice.

::Hurry!:: Gwenneth called into the mindlink. ::I can't distract them much--:: For an instant the impression of intense pain and fear filled the link, and then it was abruptly cut off.
