I own "Samara", a 500 with the 501 layout.

As far as space goes she's fantastic. My wife & I tend to sleep on the dinnete arrangement (I'm 6'3") which converts quickly and easily. We keep the forepeak free for visiting friends and kids.

Handeling wise the 500 is great, thought the Yanmar 8hp is enough for manouvering, but does leave one feeling it lacks puch for foul tides - it took agaes getting into Poole harbour last summer during a spring ebb, but was a glorious day :-)

Cockpit is nice and deep, but the tiller takes getting used to. It's a beautiful piece of wood but extends most of the cockpit, so when tacking you just need to adopt a routine - didn't take us long. When entering/leaving marinas the crew will be on deck anyway so you will have plenty of space to play with.

My wife and I sail with the standard, non-ST winches and roller boom reefing. She's a lovely boat, moves well, great accomodation, handles well in nasty weather.

Couldn't recommend the make enough.

As per Nick - make sure you negotiate well - beware the essential commisioning work will cost a few quid.

Rgs,

Neil
